With all the buzz surrounding Init sa Magdamag, you have probably been stunned by the show’s promising plot and the intriguing scenes of its lead stars including JM De Guzman. Before he officially steals our hearts anew, let’s take a look back on JM’s superb acting journey in this video.
When talking about JM’s ‘bagito’ days in showbiz, you’d probably remember him for his heart-melting smiles and twinkling eyes in Mula Sa Puso and his charming portrayal of a teenage dad in Angelito: Ang Batang Ama.
But, prior to these big breaks, he started as a commercial model when he was just six. While mixed martial arts can also be considered his first love, JM started a relationship with acting at the age of 13 when he was cast in the youth-oriented show Ang TV 2 alongside Arjo Atayde, Denise Laurel, and Shaina Magdayao.
The year 2009 was a climactic chapter in his showbiz career. He auditioned and was cast in the Cinemalaya entry “Last Supper Number 3.” It was then when Direk Lauren Dyogi’s eye for talent has spotted JM, who was asked to audition for Precious Hearts Romances Presents “Midnight Phantom.” He went on to play minor roles for two more seasons, namely, “Alyna” and “The Substitute Bride.”
While he was cast for small roles, it was impossible to just turn a blind eye to his potential and mesmerizing boy-next-door charm. His biggest break came in via the 2011 remake of Kapamilya classic Mula Sa Puso where he reprised the role originally played by ‘90s heartthrob Rico Yan.
In that same year, he topbilled the now-iconic drama Angelito: Ang Batang Ama. With its success, JM continued his run as lead actor in the follow-up teleserye Angelito: Ang Bagong Yugto.
The Kapamilya actor also showcased his unfathomable brilliance in more Kapamilya programs including All Of Me, Maalaala Mo Kaya, and Ipaglaban Mo. In 2018, Precious Hearts Romances Presents Araw Gabi highlighted JM’s swoon-worthy leading man appeal and his rare gift of serving viewers with nuanced performances.
In 2019, JM proved that he can thrive on the heavy drama landscape by playing a pivotal role in Pamilya Ko, a series focused on family.
Blessed with depth in acting, JM also shined in independent and mainstream films. He’s best known for his gripping performance in “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank” (2011) that brought him a Best Actor nomination. His honest, endearing portrayal in new-gen’s ultimate ‘hugot’ flick “That Thing Called Tadhana” also brought him a Best Actor feat.
Apart from being an amazing TV and movie star, JM is also a music virtuoso. He was a regular performer on ASAP 18 and he has two albums under his belt.
Fall in love with JM all over again as he plays another multi-faceted role in the newest sexy-drama series Init sa Magdamag. Catch its premiere this coming April 19 on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z and iWantTFC.
