Gerald Anderson’s epic rise to becoming a sought-after leading man

In the past 15 years, we have witnessed the prolific showbiz career of Gerald Anderson as he emerges as one of the most versatile actors and sought-after leading man of his generation. As he currently makes us swoon with his portrayal of Dr. Christopher “Tupe” Salcedo in the newest primetime romance drama Init Sa Magdamag, let’s revisit some of his remarkable television stints through the years in this feature.

As we all know, his ticket to the local entertainment scene was through joining the inaugural Teen Edition of Pinoy Big Brother in 2006, wherein he was hailed as the Third Big Placer. Right after that, he went on to appear in a slew of Kapamilya shows and had his acting debut via the “My Boy, My Girl” episode of Love Spell opposite his former on-and-off-screen partner Kim Chiu.

He’s able to immediately snag his first-ever starring role on primetime TV the following year through Sana Maulit Muli, wherein he impressed us with his performance as Travis Johnson. It was succeeded by his stint in the Filipino adaptation of the hit South Korean romantic-comedy series My Girl in 2008.

We then got to see Gerald in action as he played David Garcia Jr. in the notable teleserye Tayong Dalawa and as the titular character in Agimat: Tiagong Akyat, the TV adaptation of Ramon Revilla’s award-winning film “Hulihin si Tiagong Akyat,” which were both aired in 2009.

Later in 2011, he was able to further prove his versatility as an actor through his compelling portrayal of the now-iconic titular role of Budoy, a mentally-challenged man suffering from Angelman Syndrome.

The Kapamilya actor went on to star in the 2013 legal drama Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin, wherein he got paired with Cristine Reyes. He then became Anne Curtis’ leading man in the 2014 remake of Dyesebel, playing the role of Fredo Montilla.

Gerald was also part of the major cast of the 2015 inspirational kidserye Nathaniel as he took on the role of Paul Laxamana, the father of the titular character played by Marco Masa.

After almost a decade, fans of his team-up with Kim Chiu, popularly known as KimErald, indeed rejoiced as they got reunited in the daytime sports drama Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin in 2017.

Last year, he once again exhibited flair in action as he starred in the military-themed primetime drama A Soldier’s Heart as Alexander Marasigan.

And this year, the 32-year-old Kapamilya actor is once again heating up our screens as he headlines Init Sa Magdamag alongside JM de Guzman and Yam Concepcion, in which their characters are involved in a complicated love triangle situation tainted by politics. It is directed by Raymund B. Ocampo and Ian D. Loreños and can be streamed on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z Channel 11, and iWantTFC.
