It might have been three years since the family-oriented drama “Seven Sundays” hit the big screens but the fictional Bonifacio Family still continues to stir inspiration in the hearts of Pinoy audiences. For veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez, the film will remain timeless because it reflects the typical Filipino family’s happy and enduring moments.
Mounting such grand presentation would’ve been more challenging if not for the powerhouse cast’s superb acting knowledge, and genuine camaraderie. “Masaya ‘yung pagsasamahan namin doon. ‘Yun ang isa sa mga shooting na hindi trabaho kundi parang picnic,” recalled Ronaldo.
Ronaldo said he has a big appetite for dramatic confrontation scenes, and portraying as the Bonifacio patriarch in “Seven Sundays” has satisfied his passion with much gusto.
His personal experiences as a father, of course, helped him breathe life to his character. Behind the cameras, Ronaldo is a doting father and grandpa whose greatest parenting principle is to treat his kids like ‘barkada.’
“Ang foundation ng family is of course love, hugs kisses, sense of humor, love for music tapos love for the arts and movies, at saka pagkain,” the veteran actor shared.
Ronaldo believes that parenting styles must adapt to the changing and modern way of living. He asserts that elderlies must also be open-minded and have an unconventional perspective in dealing with the new generation. Ronaldo believes that giving the youngs a chance to speak up fosters respect than defiance.
“Respect for the child. Hindi katulad noong old school na ‘Ako ang magulang at ‘pag sinabi ko gagawin mo, ‘wag kang sasagot o ‘wag kang mangangatwiran.’ Hindi na gano’n. Pwedeng mangatwiran at pwedeng sumagot at ‘pag na-prove niya na tama siya, tinatanggap ko,” he explained.
But a father must also learn how to emphasize parental authority when needed. This, he said, is the most challenging part of being a ‘man of the house.’ “Sa pagdidisiplina, kasi parang barkada pero halimbawa ‘pag mayroong nag-cross ng line, siyempre kailangan mong i-impose ang rules.”
In light of the Father’s Day Celebration, Ronaldo wishes that the world may soon rise stronger after this pandemic and that everyone may stay happy and healthy.
