From UK, with so much love! In this episode of I Feel U, Kaladkaren is joined by British fiancé Luke Wrightson to share their story of love and updates about their upcoming wedding.
Kalakdkaren was supposed to just spend Christmas and New Year with her boyfriend Luke and his family in England. But the travel restrictions forced her to stay longer. She’s not complaining, though, as they get to spend more time together after years of long distance relationship.
As a merchant navy, Luke’s life has always been away from home. Thus, the past months have been extra happy as he gets to spend it with his family and girlfriend. They would find joy even in the mundane. Even ordinary things like cooking, walking in the woods and going to the beach, watching movies, and sharing stories have been so special.
Luke shared that Kaladkaren prepared ‘adobo’ and he enjoyed the dish. Kaladkaren chimed in, “Favorite nila dito lumpia, pancit. Parang every week daw magluto ako ng stir-fried noodles o kaya adobo. They really like it.”
The couple announced their engagement in September 2020. While they are over the moon, the pair decided to postpone the wedding until next year. Kaladkaren’s family wishes to attend the ceremonies in the UK, that’s why they have to wait until travel restrictions are relaxed. In the meantime, she’s enjoying the engagement bliss and taking on little steps to organize the ceremony.
Luke believes he’s in-charge of the engagement while his fiancée is set to command the planning. He just told Kaladkaren to ask for his mom’s help. “In terms of preparation, nagsa-scout na kami ng venue. Ang ganda ng venue parang ang lakas maka-Disney princess. Old hotel siya tapos ang view niya, bay. So nasa cliff siya, so kitang-kita mo yung magandang view habang nagwa-walk ka sa aisle” she said, and we couldn’t wait to see the fairy-tale wedding come to life.
Asked what made him realize that Kaladkaren or Jervi is the one, Luke looked back on the eight happy years they shared. That number alone is enough of a sign for him, “You don’t stay with someone that long if you don’t deeply care about them. For me, we’re always there when we need each other. I think over the years, our relationship got stronger and we got more comfortable with each other.”
He added that theirs is more than just a mushy, love-at-first-sight romance. They spent the past eight years growing the relationship. It sure entailed hard work and a good amount of patience especially in defying the distance. As they soon embark on a new chapter, Luke is certain he can rely on Jervi as a life partner. He knows they will have each other no matter the circumstances. He will do everything for her.
He likes her best for her energy, the happiness she passes on to others. He would attest that Kaladkaren is a source of good vibes on and off cam. Kaladkaren continued, “Tahimik kasi ito, eh. So lagi ko siyang pinapatawa pati Mommy niya. Mga jokes natin sa Pinas, dinadala ko dito. Tinuturuan ko siya ng gay lingo.”
But, probably the biggest question of all is how much Kaladkaren can sacrifice for the relationship. Will she give up her career in the Philippines? She said Luke has been very supportive since day one. He gave her the green light to still pursue local showbiz once they get married, certain that they can work out any situation. Luke joked that he’s ready to be the house-husband in case Kaladkaren chooses to stay in the Philippines and pursue showbiz.
However, when it comes to the legality of marriage, Kaladkaren thinks the UK would be a better option. “Tanggap ko naman na wala pang ganoon [same-sex marriage] sa Pilipinas at naiiintindihan ko ‘yun. If one day we decide to move here, I’m ready naman to compromise. We have to sacrifice. We cannot have everything that we want. At one point, kailangan natin mag-decide which is our priority,” she related.
Wherever they choose to move in, Kaladkaren and Luke will make it work as long as they have each other.
