Moira Dela Torre has been mending and breaking vulnerable hearts through her mellifluous voice and heartfelt hugot songs in the past decade that she’s been in the industry. And now, she helps in making the dreams of aspiring singers come true as one of the judges of Idol Philippines, which Season 2 premieres this coming weekend, June 25 and 26!
But before she reprises her role in the talent show, let’s look back on some of her remarkable music moments on television that truly hit us to the core and delighted us in this episode of Kapamilya Spotlight.
Her love affair with music enkindled when she was 12 years, which she apparently got from her parents who were both choir members. In her one-on-one interview with veteran broadcaster Korina Sanchez for Rated K in 2018, she related that she started to write her own songs, which was her way of battling depression, anorexia, and bullying.
She was 14 years old when she first attempted to audition for various recording companies, but got repeatedly rejected. Thus, she just poured her efforts and focus in composing songs and her side hustle as writer and singer of jingles for TV commercials.
It was in 2013 when she had her TV debut through the blind auditions of The Voice Philippines Season 1, wherein she fascinated us with her rendition of Bamboo’s “Hallelujah” that made Coach Apl.de.Ap turn.
Her journey in the competition may have fallen short, but it actually opened a lot of doors for her to show off her prowess, such as releasing her first-ever single titled “Love Me Instead” writing and singing the official soundtracks of several movies.
Moira may be a brilliant songwriter, but she also had the chance to interpret other’s work. In 2017, she lent her voice to budding composer Libertine Amistoso’s “Titibo-tibo” and bagged the grand prize in the songwriting and music video competition Himig Handog.
Her guesting in the now-defunct Sunday night comedy talk show Gandang Gabi Vice that same year reminded us of the aphorism “be careful what you wish for.” As host Vice Ganda challenged them to compose a love song impromptu, she and fellow singer-songwriter Kaye Cal gamely accepted it and successfully delivered, destroying our hearts right on the spot. Aside from that, she also performed her freshly-released song then, “Tagu-Taguan”.
In 2018, she and then It’s Showtime guest co-host Bela Padilla stirred, amused, and made the madlang people sing-along with their performance of her songs “Malaya”, “Sundo”, “Titibo-tibo”, and “Torete” on the noontime program.
Before launching her “Malaya” album that year, the songstress once again performed “Tagu-Taguan” live before the hosts and audiences of ASAP Chillout.
From breaking our hearts, Moira made our hearts full and kilig the following year as she crooned “Sundo” and “Tagpuan” together with Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo on the ASAP Natin ‘To stage.
In March 2020, she didn’t only amaze the King of Talk with the trilogy concept of her songs “Patawad, Paalam”, “Paalam”, and “Patawad” during her guesting in Tonight With Boy Abunda, but also turned him emotional as she heeded to his request to sing a few lines from “Patawad”.
Later that year, she went on to shatter our hearts anew through her new masterpiece “Paubaya”, which she performed on the ASAP Natin ‘To stage.
Is Moira going to break or make hearts as one of the judges of Idol Philippines Season 2? Let’s all find out by not missing an episode beginning this weekend, June 25 and 26 on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z Channel 11, iWantTFC!
