From just dreaming of making it in the music industry, Idol Philippines judge Moira Dela Torre has now achieved so much because of her distinct singing style. She worked hard and grabbed every learning opportunity that came her way. Thus, she is now one of the most popular, in-demand music artists in the country today.
Commercial Jingle Singer
Moira’s first step in the industry is by being a vocal artist doing corporate jingles. She sang commercial jingles like “Hooray For Today” and “We Are Together” for a fastfood chain, “Pinalaki” for a detergent soap brand, “You Are Here” for a cologne product, “Signature of Love” for a baby care institutional advertisement, and she rendered her own version of Yeng Constantino’s “Hawak Kamay” for a detergent soap bar.
Last year, Moira’s winning interpretation of the song “Titibo-Tibo” in Himig Handog 2017 became the jingle of a cologne brand. Aside from singing the song, Moira also appeared on the TV ad.
The Voice Journey
On the very first season of The Voice Philippines in 2013, Moira took a big leap and joined the blind auditions. Her rendition of coach Bamboo Manalac’s hit song “Hallelujah” impressed the judges, and it was the Filipino-American rapper Apl.De.Ap who gave her the ticket to move forward in the show.
However, Moira’s journey in the said show didn’t last long. She got eliminated in The Battles Round after performing the song “One Night Only” alongside Cara Manglapus and Penelope Matanguihan.
First Hit Single
In 2016, Moira released her first ever hit single “Malaya”, which was the official theme song of the film “Camp Sawi.” A “Malaya” music video was also released starring Banana Sundae mainstay Angelica Panganiban and Halik star Sam Milby.
TV and Movie Theme Songs
Being remarkable for having the power to make people emotional with her songs, Moira eventually became an in demand singer for theme songs in television and movies. She sang the theme “Saglit” of Marco Saison played by Carlo Aquino in the 2017 drama series entitled The Better Half.
For the 2017 family drama series entitled The Good Son, Moira did her own rendition of the song “Sundo”, which was sang originally by the Filipino rock band Imago.
Another song that Moira remade was the Moonstar 88 song “Torete” for the JoshLia-starrer “Love You To The Stars and Back”. Moira also performed a music video for the song.
Moira also sang the official theme song “Huling Gabi” for the 2017 film entitled “Last Night.” Home Sweetie Home stars Toni Gonzaga and Piolo Pascual portrayed the lead roles in this movie.
In the romantic comedy drama film “Meet Me in St. Gallen,” Moira gave her own rendition of the 1960’s song “You Are My Sunshine”. Carlo Aquino and Bela Padilla starred in the said film.
Recently, Moira has made our hearts squeeze with her version of Rey Valera’s “Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko”. It was the theme song of KathNiel’s 2018 romantic drama film entitled “The Hows of Us.”
Through her ups and downs, Moira has indeed stood strong and never stopped pursuing her dreams. Moira’s success proves that hardwork and perseverance indeed pay off. Now, she has certainly graduated from being a contender into becoming able judge of a reality talent show. Catch judge Moira on Idol Philippines!
