In the recent years, Negi, whose real name is Uldario Molina Jr., has been omnipresent in various shows and movies of ABS-CBN, such as Gandang Gabi Vice, Minute To Win It, and I Can See Your Voice, wherein he’s one of the “SINGvestigators”.
But did you know that it was his friend Vice Ganda who paved his way to show business and even gave him the screen name “Negi”?
In his appearance on Jeepney TV’s Showbiz Pa More in March 2019, he imparted to DJ Jha Ho how they met a few years ago and how their admirable friendship bloomed. According to him, they first met at a comedy bar where he used to regularly work as a stand-up comedian and the Unkabogable Star used to frequently visit.
However, it was only when Negi got hired as a jester to his Sunday talk show Gandang Gabi Vice that they got closer. Aside from treating him as a mere side-kick, Vice seemingly also considered him as a friend and a protégé as he relentlessly guided him with his career, especially during those times that he was having personal issues.
The It’s Showtime mainstay talked about it during their guesting in Magandang Buhay two years ago together, wherein he recalled the moment when he taught Negi a lesson after he almost got lost on his track.
As Vice Ganda noticed how he drastically changed his lifestyle and improved the life of his family, the Unkabogable Star once again helped Negi by hiring him back to the Sunday comedy talk show. Since then, more projects poured on Negi even without the assistance of his Ate Vice, making it possible for him to save up. Thus, Vice has been so proud of him!
“’Di ko kasi makakalimutan kay Ate Vice ‘yong inakbayan niya ako na ang dami naming stand-up comedians na gustong sumikat, ikaw nand’yan ka na, pahalagahan mo. Tumanim sa isip ko ‘yon,” Negi commented, imparting how the pieces of advice and words of wisdom of Vice Ganda truly stirred him.
Apart from being the jester in his show, Vice has also been giving Negi and other stand-up comedians exposures in his blockbuster films through the years, as what the latter mentioned in his interview with the King Of Talk on Tonight With Boy Abunda last year.
