Luis Manzano talks about his showbiz firsts and lasts in Kapamilya Confessions

As our favorite mystery music game show I Can See Your Voice is officially making a comeback this weekend with fresh episodes and new set of Singvestigators, host Luis Manzano graced the Kapamilya Confessions last Wednesday, October 21, to not just promote it, but to also mingle with his ever-adoring fans virtually who have arguably missed seeing him on television.

But before heeding to their requests for shout-outs and answering their questions, he initially took on the First and Last Challenge, in which he gamely bared some of his firsts and lasts based on the topics given to him.

Talking about his firsts, Luis revealed that he had his hosting debut via MYX and ASAP, while his first-ever TV guesting was in his Mommy Sharon Cuneta’s program, wherein he appeared with his beloved dad Edu Manzano. It was also in ASAP wherein he had his first embarrassing moment, at least on TV, as he mistakenly mentioned their rival show then for his closing spiel. But, luckily it was his birthday so the management, led by Director Johnny Manahan, just let it slide.

Aside from being his best friend, he disclosed that Anne Curtis is also his first and longest on-screen partner, to whom he would love to work with in a teleserye if given the chance. They first got paired in the well-loved series Kampanerang Kuba, which also served as the actress-host’s biggest acting break.

And with regards to the first thing that he looks at a person, it’s the face for him. While the initial characteristic he searches for is his/her respect towards other people, regardless of status.

When it comes to his lasts, the award-winning TV presenter recalled that his latest Instagram post that time was a promo for his upcoming digital show with Long Mejia, dubbed “LUCKY-ng TuLONG”, which can be streamed on his official YouTube channel and Facebook page starting October 24.

It may not be included in the set of questions, but Luis addressed his followers’ queries regarding his eccentric IG newsfeed.

“May nagtatanong kung bakit gano’n ‘yong Instagram feed ko. Kasi ‘di ako ma-selfie na tao, obviously. Kahit ‘yong mga jokes ko na gwapong-gwapo ako sa sarili ko, ‘di ko alam kung bakit may mga taong sineseryoso ‘yon. ‘Di ko ma-gets. Patawa ‘yon. Sobrang patawa. Kahit ako, alam ko na hindi ako guwapo,” he stated.

With regards to the last time he said “I love you,” he imparted that it was to his girlfriend Jessy Mendiola before ending their phone call and to his mom Governor Vilma Santos-Recto, too, when he talked to her a few days ago.

He also revealed that the last time he cried was around June or July of this year.

When asked why he has chosen Long Mejia to be his partner in his LUCKYng TuLONg, he disclosed that he’s actually one of those great comedians he looks up to in the industry.

“Si Long kasi, nakasama ko na siya dati pa. Isa sa mga tinitingala kong komedyante si Long Mejia. Iba ‘yong comedy nina Kuya Bayani Agbayani, Long Mejia. Bago pa ako mag-showbiz, fan na ako ng comedy nila, sobra and I will forever be a fan ng gano’ng comedy,” he related.

He continued, “Tapos nagkasama kami ni Long dito sa [ABS-CBN] – [Kapamilya] Deal or No Deal [and] Minute To Win It, at grabe ‘yong chemistry naming tatlo no’n sa Minute To Win It – ako, Negi, Long. Kaya ang dami kong work na kasama ko rin sila kasi pinapakuha ko sila, at the same time pinapakuha ko si Kuya Bayani, si Wacky. Grabe ‘yong laugh trip.”

Being a host for most of his life in the local entertainment scene, Luis willingly gave one of the live commenters the most important advice on what makes a good host. He implied that one should remind himself/herself that he/she’s not the bida or the one who’s under the spotlight because it truly belongs to the interviewees or the main subject/s of an event or show.

He also debunked the notion of Robi Domingo copying his hosting style, saying, “Hindi. ‘Yang si Robi, lahat ng achievements ko sa hosting, it will take a few years, napakadaling lampasan ni Robi ‘yan. Kumbaga he has his own path, he has his own niche na kahit matagal na siya sa industriya, the future is still bright para kay Señor Robi Domingo.”

And since he used to be one of the hosts of Pinoy Big Brother, which is making a comeback by opening its online auditions recently, one of our Kapamilyas took the chance to ask him for a piece of advice for aspiring housemates like him/her.

“Well, gandahan mo ‘yong audition video at higit sa lahat, be yourself.

With regards to his favorite movie that he did, Luis declared that it’s the blockbuster hit “In My Life” that he starred alongside his mom Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto and John Lloyd Cruz, in which he impressively portrayed a complicated gay character.

He also responded to other questions about his girlfriend Jessy Mendiola, his close friend Alex Gonzaga, the things he learned and kept him occupied this pandemic, and his words of wisdom for students currently struggling with their online classes, and other random queries.
