Maris Racal said she felt at peace and happy knowing boyfriend Rico Blanco was in the same bubble for the digital series “The Goodbye Girl.”

At first, it felt unusual since they’re more used to making music than acting together, and it’s the first time Maris acted opposite a boyfriend, “Medyo strange ‘yung experience kasi first time ko talaga maka-work ‘yung isang taong may relationship ako with. Parang hindi naman kami sanay sa buhay-taping together. Hindi ko pa nga siya nakaeksena before.”

She continued, “Medyo strange siya na nakikita si Rico nagpe-play ng ibang character kasi in my head, ‘Hindi ko ‘to boyfriend. Iba ‘tong kaeksena ko.’ Sobrang nakakapanibago lang.”

But for the most part, having Rico around made bubble life a lot easier, “Kasi ang sarap pala sa feeling kapag andiyan ‘yung boyfriend mo sa taping, nakakawala ng pagod, masaya.“

Maris plays Ria in the fourth episode of “The Goodbye Girl,” which is an episodic series that connects the lives of girls dealing with different love dilemmas, encountered by a self-help writer played by Angelica Panganiban.

In “The Goodbye Girl’s” “The Bitter Hopia” episode, Maris is a woman who falls victim to a one-sided love, hopeful that a ‘mutual understanding’ with a guy turns into something more, but only to learn that he’s already in a relationship with another girl.

Reminiscent of the plot, Kapamilya Chat asked Maris her thoughts about the Pinoy ‘hugot’ line “Ang unang ma-in love, talo.” She said it only becomes risky and painful when you fall hard in love without knowing the other person’s intentions.

“Kung may isang relationship na walang label, hindi ka sure kung saan papunta, pero nagde-date kayo, nagawa n’yo na lahat, pero wala pa ring label, for me, talo ka talaga ’pag na-in love ka. Ang hirap ma-in love ‘pag hindi sigurado ‘yung kasama mo. Parang, ano ba talagang gusto ng taong ‘to? Pero ikaw, sa puso mo, hino-hold back mo lahat kahit ready ka na ma-in love. So, talo ka talaga ‘pag una kang na-in love,” explained Maris.

Her advice then is to define things first before falling seriously, “Kailangan, alam n’yo muna talaga kung sigurado ba kayo sa isa’t isa or you’re just here for a good time.”

That’s where the importance of label and communication comes in.
