Who would have thought that the sweetheart Cassie from Kadenang Ginto could be the fierce and inspiring Joy in Huwag Kang Mangamba?
Young and talented Kapamilya star Francine Diaz constantly proves her growth and versatility as a drama actress. Watch this Kapamilya Toplist and see for yourself her outstanding performances in the touching drama Huwag Kang Mangamba.
Initially appearing as a rebellious teen, Francine’s character Joy is misunderstood by her family. When they saw her drug test results turn out positive, her father immediately thought the worse. The young actress truly bared the trauma of not being trusted in such scenes. Joy relentlessly tried to prove her innocence, but gave up when she realized that her father wouldn’t choose to believe her. With that, Francine brilliantly delivered the emotionally-packed line, “Kung talagang kilala n’yo ako, hindi n’yo na kailangan pa alamin ‘yong totoo.”
Regardless of the countless struggles encountered in the story, Francine is still able to show a solemn side to Joy. As she felt guilty about her mistakes towards Mira (Andrea Brillantes) and sought forgiveness for the error of her ways, she unleashed heartbreaking lines with palpable sincerity talking to Bro.
However, despite lifting up her troubles to Bro, she still experiences hurtful abuse at home from her stepmother and tragic experiences such as losing Mama Barang (Sylvia Sanchez) for some time. She is often battling negative thoughts too, which wavers her faith. Given this complexity in her character, Francine is able to clearly transcend to audiences the deep confusion and mixed feelings Joy is feeling.
Francine definitely stepped her acting skill onto another level when Joy found out that her biological mother had died. For years, Joy thought ill of her mother, but as she changed her perspective and yearned for her mother’s love, it crushed her to know that she could never reconcile with her again.
This led to Francine amazingly portraying a series of different emotions at different degrees. From the line she said to Bro, “Bakit n’yo ako pinaasa na makakasama ko pa ‘yung nanay ko? Bakit?!”, everyone could hear the grief, anger, and sadness behind it altogether.
As if the tears flowing from our eyes weren’t enough, Francine also expressed the relatable feeling of hopelessness and giving up when the challenges are too hard to bear. In tandem with the exceptional acting of Andrea as Mira, they didn’t disappoint us in the iconic scenes of them grieving the loss of their mother.
Francine is sure to deliver more divine and dramatic moments as Joy in Huwag Kang Mangamba. Catch it weeknights on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live and A2Z Channel 11.
