7 times Diego endured pain and sacrifices for his relationship with Miguel in Huwag Kang Mangamba

Inspirational series Huwag Kang Mangamba has been treating us with a new love angle that speaks about sacrifices and acceptance through Miguel (RK Bagatsing) and surprise character Diego (Rafael Rosell) – the secret couple of the fictitious town of Hermoso. In this Kapamilya Toplist, we take inspiration from Diego and his committed love for Miguel that would defy social stigma, insecurities, and struggles.

Diego had a pleasing entrance in the show. We’ve known him since as the kind-hearted and very charming businessman who is devotedly in love with Miguel. And although theirs is a love that needs to be kept in silence, Diego can make it look like a passionate gush of emotions that cannot be tamed. He is sacrificial, to the point of martyrdom.

In his first scene in the teleserye, he begged Miguel to let him stay even if that means pretending they’re mere strangers. He can love Miguel from afar, in the darkness and pain. “Pumayag ako na itago mo ako basta alam kong ako lang ang mahal mo,” he told him.

Diego didn’t mind even if Miguel had to feign affection towards Eva (Mylene Diaz). He easily let go of Miguel’s betrayal that led to Eva’s pregnancy. Because deep inside, he truly believes that he’s the one Miguel truly loves and that the latter’s romance with Eva is just a spawn of political ambition.

“Kahit pilit mo akong itaboy, alam ko naman na mahal mo pa rin ako. Just, please huwag mo akong itulak palayo. You can trust me,” Diego pleaded once more. By the sounds of it, he can give up everything just to be with Miguel.

As if that wasn’t already too much of an emotional torture, he continued begging, “Magbubulag-bulagan ako para sa’yo pero huwag mong tanggalin sa akin ang mag-alala. Ayokong masira ka ulit kasi mawawasak rin ako.” By that time, viewers got a clearer grasp of Diego and Miguel’s backstory. Their love blossomed in both their darkest times. Diego was confused about his sexual identity while Miguel was grieving over his parents’ death. They found and fixed each other’s broken parts, paving the way for a deeper understanding.

Diego would hint at his wish to come out, saying he’s proud of the relationship they’ve grown over the years. But Miguel couldn’t because of his political bid and he’s scared to defy his grandfather Mayor Simon (Nonie Buencamino)’s rules.

Bent on keeping their relationship, Diego agreed to stick with Miguel even if he doesn’t get as much love as he gives. He remained constant in Miguel’s life. He’s the one who would understand, comfort, and patiently wait. Diego is also the one who inspires Miguel to be better.

One of Diego’s boldest acts of love is squeezing himself right into the space between Miguel and Mayor Simon. He bravely stood his ground in front of the intimidating and dangerous old man to fight for his love. “Wala kayong karapatang sabihin that he is less of a man dahil minahal niya ako,” he shouted at Mayor Simon, who ended up punching him.

In the recent episodes, Diego was trapped in danger as Mayor Simon resolved to keep him out of Miguel’s life. How much pain can Diego still endure for the sake of his relationship with Miguel? Don’t miss an episode of Huwag Kang Mangamba on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z.
