The money-hungry duo of Mayor Simon (Nonie Buencamino) and Deborah (Eula Valdes) from Huwag Kang Mangamba has greed and hypocrisy plastered on their souls, thus making them the common foe of teleserye enthusiasts. In this Kapamilya Toplist, we rounded up the scenes showing the allies, sometimes enemies’ most vicious acts for the sake of power and glory.
Ruthless to the core, Mayor Simon and Deborah took advantage of a Divine incident – Mira (Andrea Brillantes) and Joy (Francine Diaz)’s resurrection – to create publicity. They agreed to join forces by Deborah gracing Miguel (RK Bagatsing)’s campaign rally, which will expectedly yield fame for both camps, and later on votes for Miguel’s candidacy. To rouse public curiosity, they planned to exploit Joy by forcing her to relay how Deborah resurrected her from the dead.
There are thankfully more people who remain devoted to the good. However, the defiance to authority will only bring them trouble. Take for instance Barang (Sylvia Sanchez), who becomes a target of Mayor Simon and Deborah’s wickedness because of her knowledge about their conspiracies.
In a scene, Mayor Simon aimed to rouse sympathy by playing the victim. He pretended to apologize to Barang in a staged act witnessed by the townsfolk of Hermoso. Deborah added more ‘gigil’ when she prayed over Barang and told her to surrender to the Divine will, which is forgiveness and kindness, as though she puts her preaching into practice.
Driven by the same amount of greed, Mayor Simon and Deborah often clash. It first happened when Deborah found out that Mayor Simon’s camp tried to invite Mira to join Miguel’s campaign rallies. Deborah threatened to back out from the connivance, giving her the privilege to boss around. She ordered him to get rid of Miar, who she considers the biggest threat to her reputation as a miracle worker.
Mayor Simon was forced to grant Deborah’s whims until a reversal happened. He discovered Deborah and Agatha (Mercedes Cabral)’s crime in the past. The cunning man promised to keep the secret but not without turning the tables to his advantage. He said he would put up Deborah’s requested healing center, however, 60 percent of donations will go straight to his pockets. Deborah tried to protest but only to be reminded of her and Agatha’s skeletons.
