10 scenes of Rebecca’s unconditional love as a wife and mother in Huwag Kang Mangamba

Mothers are the gentlest yet fiercest souls on earth. Their hearts hold a kind of love so pristine, selfless, and sacrificial that they can keep silent even in times of pain. Rebecca (Matet de Leon) didn’t let kidney failure get in the way of her duties as a mother and wife until her quiet devotion blossomed into a beautiful miracle. In this Kapamilya Toplist from the inspirational drama series Huwag Kang Mangamba, we rounded up ten scenes of Rebecca that highlight her ability to love wholeheartedly despite her fractured flesh and bones.

Rebecca calls herself a woman with superpowers, which is the ability to sense trouble and make her family smile. And as a superhero, her husband Tomas (Dominic Ochoa) and son Pio (Seth Fedelin) are her kryptonite. She suffered from a serious illness that needed lifetime medication. But not even pain can make her stop from being a hands-on homemaker.

She didn’t want to pass on the burden to her family despite their pleas. For Rebecca, to serve the household breathes her strength, inspiration, and the hope that she will be healed one day.

That’s why she never stopped praying despite the unchanging situation. She did everything to raise Pio into a person with morals and faith. She looked beyond her circumstances. Sadly, she was among the innocent devotees tricked by Deborah (Eula Valdes)’s bogus miracle of rose petals falling from the skies. Guilty of the sham, Tomas stared at Rebecca and quietly prayed for her healing.

At a time when the people of Hermoso doubted Mira (Andrea Brillante) and Joy (Francine Diaz)’s reputation, Rebecca stood up in their defense and told Pio that friendship is never measured by material things. She was very warm towards Mira and Joy as well as Rafa (Kyle Echarri) and Pio’s other friends.

She makes the most delicious food for Tomas and Pio. In a scene wherein the father and son argued over their connections to the Advincula, all Rebecca did was serve the special dessert she made and the quarrel stopped like magic. She is the middle ground between the two, always setting a good example of compromise and patient listening with just the right amount of fighting spirit.

Even in her crucial days at the hospital, while she was in bad shape, Rebecca remained steadfast in her obligations as a mother and wife. She didn’t want to see them worried, thus her rule to always smile at her signal. She was sick but all she could think of was her family’s welfare. In her surrender, she told Pio and Tomas to look after one another in case she’s called by ‘Bro’ or Jesus Christ.

Rebecca never let go of her faith. As written in the bible, faith, even in the size of a mustard seed, can yield miraculous answers. True enough, Rebecca received her miracle, albeit her gain was Darling (Angeline Quinto)’s loss. She received a second shot at life when Caloy (Soliman Cruz) died and Darling decided to donate her father’s kidney organ.
