Rate & React Andrea in High Street

Many of us assume that actors love watching themselves on screen. If we, ordinary people, were in their shoes, we’d probably keep hitting the replay button to watch our performances over and over again—let's admit it. But for Andrea Brillantes, reviewing her work is the last thing she wants to do because she tends to be hypercritical. Instead, she relies on her directors to decide if her delivery is good enough.

However, we got lucky because Andrea broke her own rule for Kapamilya Chat’s “Rate and React” segment, where she watched some of her best scenes as Sky Love Cruz from the recently concluded series, “High Street.” She rated them from 1 to 10 and shared some off-cam stories as well.

Ready? Let's dive into that eerie reunion of her character, Sky, with the original villain from the first season of “Senior High,” none other than Mon Confiado’s Governor William Acosta. The creepy meeting escalated into a violent fight when William strangled Sky, who fought back as they battled to see who would kill whom. Then Gino (Juan Karlos) arrived just in time to save Sky, but he ended up becoming the target of his former father figure’s rage. The cops then made it to the location and ultimately shot William.

Even before the clip ended, Andrea had already given a perfect 10 rating to this intense confrontation-slash-death scene. Well, that’s no surprise because any part with Mon is always flawless, right? Plus, it was made to look so real that both she and Juan Karlos, or JK, actually got a bit hurt while filming. “Medyo nasakal talaga ako, kaming dalawa ni JK,” she recalled fondly. “Pero ginusto namin ‘yun para nakaka-immerse kami sa eksena.” They even kept it a secret from Mon so he wouldn't feel self-conscious or hold back.

Andrea, of course, loves working with seasoned thespians because she learns a lot from them. And it seems the feeling is mutual, as she also manages to impress the veterans. In a previous episode of Kapamilya Chat, Mon named Andrea as one of the artists he admires, raising her process as an actress. He believes her career will only continue to grow beyond its current success, boldly calling her one of the gems of this generation of stars.

When Andrea was told about this, she was at a loss for words, but there was undeniable excitement and ‘kilig’ on her face. “Thank you po dahil gano’n ang tingin n’yo sa akin,” she said, facing the cameras as if speaking directly to Mon.

Next, we move to a sweet moment between Sky and Gino, where Gino made a sandwich for her. You could see the love and longing in his eyes as he confessed, “I love you.” Her reply wasn’t a direct "I love you" back but was even sweeter: “I thank God for you, Gino. Sobra akong nagpapasalamat na kasama kita sa buhay na ‘to.” Her score for this low-key ‘kilig’ date? A perfect 10. Fun fact: Andrea was actually hungry while filming, thus it looked like she really enjoyed her food! The take was a bit delayed, though, as she asked for the meat to be removed from the sandwich first. She finds the scene very beautiful, although she is amused by how Sky cleverly dodged saying, "I love you, too."

Also, one of the highlights of “High Street” is Andrea's on-screen rivalry with Dimples Romana, a stark contrast to their previous afternoon teleserye, where they played allies. This time, she faced a fierce villain in Dimples’ character, Tori, and in many episodes, they had intense face-offs—like the confrontation where Tori threatened Sky, saying she wouldn’t find any evidence against her. But Sky insisted that justice still exists, and their heated exchange of words turned into a slapping showdown.

If she could, Andrea would give this scene a rating of 20. She loves it so much that she broke her rule and watched it repeatedly. She even posted a clip of it on her Instagram reels and couldn’t help but smile no matter how many times she has seen it. She’s amazed by Dimples’ brilliance, especially in how the deep emotions shine through her eyes.

Andrea feels blessed to have worked with Dimples and also with Angel Aquino (who portrayed Tania) as her on-screen mothers, as she has learned so much from them.

If we were to ask you, Kapamilya, what rating would you give these sequences? And did the finale of “High Street” break your heart too? No one can easily move on from Sky's "final destination," so here we are, revisiting the scenes from the teleserye that we've loved from the very beginning.
