As the conclusion of “High Street” gets closer and closer, so is the distance between two of its main characters, Sky and Gino, impressively portrayed by young hotshots Andrea Brillantes and Juan Karlos Labajo, as they’ve become noticeably closer to one another.
Even though they had several interactions during their student days at Northford High, not to mention that Gino developed feelings for Sky, their friendship didn’t prosper due to the circumstances they were in at the time. Aside from the fact that Gino is the son of William Acosta (Mon Confiado), the main culprit behind the tragic demise of her twin sister, Luna, who also used to be Gino’s girlfriend, Sky was also in love with her then-boyfriend, Obet (Kyle Echarri).
And now, a few years after stepping out of senior high and conquering the world as professionals in their chosen fields, their paths have once again crossed, making their ardent shippers wish that romance will finally blossom between them. And in the past weeks and months, we’ve noticed how the sparks between them have flickered through their kilig moments together, which we compiled in this Kapamilya Update feature.
It all started when they met at the homecoming-slash-engagement party organized by their friends Sanya (Gela Atayde) and Kenji (Tommy Alejandrino), in which they had a little kumustahan and Gino mustered the courage to take Sky’s cellphone number.
They then had the chance to talk again in person after that eventful night as they went out together. As Sky was smiling while replying to their barkada group chat, Gino apparently wasn’t able to help herself but smile, too, for he was so happy to see her smiling again. When Sky asked why, he told her, “Nakaka-miss lang. Nakakalimutan din kasi natin lately.”
On their next friendly date, Sky was amused when Gino suddenly quizzed her about the possibility of her liking her colleague Wesley (Harvey Bautista), just in case he’s not problematic. She went on to teasingly ask him back if he’s jealous, which he denied.
A lot of viewers were probably moved when Sky couldn’t stop herself from crying in front of Gino as she confessed how scared she was to lose another loved one, including him. This was after he saved her from the hooligans who tried to harm her. He assured her that she would never forsake her, and he went on to give her a tight embrace.
As Sky expressed how grateful she was that William is already dead, which marks the beginning of their becoming completely happy and free, Gino told her that he has always been happy every time he’s with her. Apparently overcome by his emotions and swept away by the moment, he wasn’t able to stop himself from trying to kiss her, but she avoided him.
While he has been transparent about his feelings for her, Gino finally mustered the courage to verbalize it during one of their intimate conversations at his condominium, where she sought temporary refuge due to the threats in her life. As he told her, “I love you,” she responded, “I thank God for you, Gino,” and added how thankful she is to share this life with him. This may not be the reply that he, and even the viewers and their supporters, are probably expecting, but this was already good. She further showed her gratitude to him by giving him a hug.
Are you rooting for Gino and Sky as well, Kapamilya?
