Their internet connection may be intermittent during the interview, but that failed to hamper the kilig and fun vibes brought by the adorable team-up of Kaori Oinuma and Rhys Miguel as they graced the latest episode of Hotspot last Thursday, July 29.
Host DJ Jhai Ho commenced their chikahan by having a little catch-up, asking them how they’ve been doing nowadays. As they’re about to sign-off as Michiko and Tobi with the forthcoming finale of He’s Into Her this Sunday, August 1, the pair expressed their gratitude to everyone who supported not only them, but the rest of cast.
“Grabe, sobrang pasasalamat ko po sa kanila kasi ang tagal bago ipalabas ang He’s Into Her. And mula no’ng umpisa, naramdaman na namin kaagad ‘yong suporta at pagmamahal nila and hanggang ngayon parang mas dumoble pa, trumiple pa ‘yong pagmamahal at suporta n’yo sa amin. So, super duper pasasalamat ako sa kanila, sa lahat ng sumusuporta ng He’s Into Her, sa amin, sa tandem namin, sa lahat ng bumubuo ng He’s Into Her,” Kaori uttered.
Rhys, on the other hand, conveyed, “Super grateful lang talaga sa lahat ng mga fans kasi alam naman namin na dati pa super lakas ng fans ng He’s Into Her kahit wala pang first episode. Tapos nag-crash ‘yong iWant, so parang, ‘wow, grabe talaga ‘yong mga support nila and every week nagpapa-trending ng isang He’s Into Her [hashtag] on Twitter. Super supportive kaya sana tuloy-tuloy ang support hanggang last episode, hanggang concert na. Abangan n’yo ang concert, magugustuhan n’yo ‘yon.”
The Pinoy Big Brother Otso alumni were also quizzed regarding their takeaways from filming the series, which ran for 12 Sundays from May 28, as well as with their respective characters. For Rhys, his whole He’s Into Her experience has taught him to be more open to the people around him and taught him a thing or two about friendships and the impact of bullying. Besides, he also imparted how he admires co-star Joao Constancia’s congeniality and generosity to everyone on the set – from the production crew up to their fellow actors. Meanwhile, Kaori imparted that Michiko made her realize more the value of listening to both sides of a story and how the support she got from her co-actors have helped her portray her role effectively.
Since KaoRhys had taken part in TV adaptations of popular teen novels, DJ Jhai Ho asked them if they ever felt pressured to meet the expectations of those who were able to read it. The 21-year-old promising actress revealed that she did, but she refused to stick by the book and simply got ideas from it since their director reminded them that they would be changes in the storyline and the characters. The same goes for the 20-year-old heartthrob who made sure to simply do his best in every scene that he did.
Being a loveteam for a few years now, both of them disclosed knowing each other a little more as they get to spend a lot of time together on-and-off-cam. They divulged that the lock-in taping enabled them to discover more things about each other, such as how both of them are fond of adventures and food.
They also shared the story behind their kilig celebration of Kaori’s 21st birthday last July 22, as he picked her up from their house and they went on a roadtrip for her birthday salubong. While having dinner and receiving their fans’ surprise for her together were pre-planned, he disclosed that checking out their He’s Into Her billboard along the Skyway was spontaneous. Thus, she’s completely grateful for the time and effort exerted by Rhys to make her happy and special on her birthday.
As encountering negativities are inevitable especially in the exciting world of show business, even though they receive overwhelming amount of love and support from their adoring shippers, DJ Jhai Ho asked KaoRhys how they react on and handle the naysayers and bashers.
“Ako naman I really try to stay away from anything like that. I try to just not look at it tapos kung makita ko agad, ‘yong unang line kung hindi maganda, ‘di ko na tinutuloy basahin kasi alam kong maa-affect ako. So, usually deadma na lang ako. I don’t really look anything like that. Tapos I remind myself lang na kung ano man ‘yong sinasabi nila, alam ko naman ‘yong totoo sa sarili ko at sa aming dalawa ni Kaori, kung ano talaga. So, parang wala naman akong worries d’yan, deadma na,” Rhys related, confessing that he used to be affected by snide remarks upon his PBB exit.
Kaori admitted having the same sentiments, yet she has already learned the “art of deadma”. She added, “Kasi nga minsan may tao talaga na kung ano man ‘yong nakikita nila, paniniwalaan nila. Pero sa’kin, parang ito lang ako, parang ginagawa ko lang kung sino talaga ako, saka alam ko naman ‘yong totoo sa hindi.”
They then proceeded on playing the “Telepathy Challenge”, wherein Kaori and Rhys had to provide the same an answer to every category that DJ Jhai Ho mentioned to test their ability to read each other’s mind and even their compatibility.
Unfortunately, they’re only able to get one point after saying “dog” in the “animal” category. They uttered different items to ice cream flavor, Kapamilya singer, pizza ingredient, fruit, and male Kapamilya star. DJ Jhai Ho tried to test them again by having them mention a name of a He’s Into Her cast, to no avail.
