Even before its Primetime debut, Halik has promised Kapamilyas a teleserye that will tell the truth about marriage. More importantly, that sometimes, love alone is not enough. In the process, it has gone above and beyond the relationships of Lino (Jericho Rosales) and Jade (Yam Concepcion) as well as Ace (Sam Milby) and Jacky (Yen Santos).
Sam once stated that he hopes viewers would take the time to understand Ace and why he makes such poor choices in life. Looking at the dynamics of his family might be one clue. One of the realities showcased in this show is families. In the case of Ace and Jacky, she left him the moment his affairs were uncovered. Yet, Ace’s parents have opted to stay together. Helen (Almira Muhlach) has often doubted her husband Rafael (Cris Villanueva). But because of her desire to maintain an untarnished reputation, they kept their marriage going while continuing to butt heads.
We saw this same attitude from Helen when Jacky kicked Ace out of their house. Despite letting her son pay the price of his actions, Helen instead tried to convince Jacky to work out the marriage. When Jacky refused to listen, Helen did not hesitate to lash out with threats.
On the other hand, Gio (Gab Lagman) is somehow left out of the picture. While he is aware that their family has its issues, Helen is determined to practically spoil Gab. It is that ‘no one has got enough for my boys’ thinking. This was also displayed when Gab showed interest towards Maggie (Jane de Leon).
But all of this, again, is for the sake of saving their family’s reputation from the judging eyes of social circles. In reality, they have a broken family that only threatens to fall apart further. But do not feel pity for them, just yet. In another reality, they are happy as can be. They even look warm and welcoming. How is t his possible? Just turn off the cameras.
