An heiress to their family business, Juliana (Carmina Villaroel) is expected to embody a powerful and confident woman. But, a chain of gripping incident in the past turned her into an overprotective mother to Joaquin (Daniel Padilla) and an insecure wife to Jaime (Ian Veneracion) as shown in these scenes from Got to Believe.
As a wife, Juliana always felt neglected by a man who she knows was in love with someone else when she got pregnant. Nonetheless, they tried to make things right, at least in the moral and legal sense, by taking their ‘forced’ relationship into marriage. Juliana hoped that Jaime would learn to nurture his feelings for her but it never happened despite living under one roof. Instead, Jaime’s continuous affairs with other women and his undying love for Betchay (Manilyn Reynes) were issues that added huge magnitude of conflict in their dysfunctional relationship. “Please mahalin mo ako,” Juliana begged Jaime, on bended knees, in the middle of an argument after revealing proof of his secret rendezvous. Juliana got an answer she dreaded to receive, “Hindi ko kayang ibigay ang hinihingi mo.”
Juliana’s relationship with her son is just as terrible, either. Her overprotectiveness may sound valid because of the stray bullet stuck in Joaquin’s brain. However, the strict parenting style didn’t please Joaquin who eventually found comfort in his nanny Puring (Irma Adlwan) and driver, Poro (Al Tantay).
Juliana’s ego as a mother was deeply hurt upon seeing Joaquin’s closeness with the couple. As petty as hearing Puring call Joaquin by his pet name easily got on her nerves, much more proving that the maid knows her son better. There was a scene where, out of jealousy, Juliana volunteered to fix Joaquin’s wardrobe. Puring giving out instructions offended the trying mother, albeit unintentional. Juliana shrugged it off and insisted that she knows her son’s preference but only to end up embarrassed upon proving that Puring was right.
The incident made Juliana doubt her worth. GigI (Nina Ricci-Alagao) dismissed the thought of Juliana being a bad mom. Instead, she opened up on her observation that Juliana’s excessive desire to protect Joaquin is taking a toll on the young man; all the while Puring and Poro provide the fun she couldn’t deliver because of her fear and insecurities. The honest conversation still didn’t enlightened Juliana, resulting in her decision to fire the couple from work after knowing that Poro secretly brought Joaquin in the carnival. Deep inside, though, getting rid of the trusted nanny and driver was rooted from her unspoken bitterness and envy.
Puring and Poro’s absence affected Joaquin to the point of neglecting his meals and playing prank on every helper who would try to replace them. Juliana knew there is only one solution to Joaquin’s stubbornness – bring Puring and Poro back – but the insecure mother wouldn’t do so, hoping that Joaquin would finally notice her love and sacrifices.
Now, with Chichay (Kathryn Bernardo)’s presence in Joaquin’s life and Betchay’s in the Manansala residence, Juliana’s insecurities will pile up even more. Catch the next happenings in Got to Believe every weekday afternoon on Kapamilya Gold.
