REVIEW: The value of “Game Ng Bayan” we should all cherish (Part 1)

Filipinos are known worldwide for their bayanihan spirit. Why not have a fun game show that highlights this heartwarming trait?

This is the idea behind ABS-CBN’s newest game show that premiered this week, “Game Ng Bayan,” which brings the celebration out of the studios and into the streets, multi-purpose halls, and basketball courts of the barangays as they engage and play with contestants where they actually are.

Captivating, distinctive feature
While having game shows or segments troop to barangay halls, gyms, or even residences is not new, the most captivating, distinctive feature of “Game Ng Bayan” is having the community participate and become a key factor in having the daily barangay champion win a jackpot. A hundred fellow residents should complete a challenge through cooperation and teamwork that will allow the champion to win the daily grand prize. Four barangay champions and each of their 100 ka-barangays from Monday to Thursday will advance to the inter-barangay championships every Friday.

The barangay champion is the contestant who won previous contests in the program, such as “Ang Dami Mong Alam,” which tests one’s vast knowledge of topics through enumeration, and “Buksan Ang Plato,” a game of chance wherein contestants choose a plate with a corresponding number and win if they could get the most “yehey” signs under the plate over the “belat” ones.

From having a hundred ka-barangays cross the finish line using large basins to working together in reaching pieces of garments from a high clothesline to dress up a contestant, we can all witness the essence of bayanihan, helping together towards a common goal.
