“Bunsong Boksingero ng General Santos” Russu Laurente joined Pinoy Big Brother Connect with the dream of showing what he’s got as a young boxer. Although on January 3, he got evicted and must now fulfill his dream outside Kuya’s house.
Most people pinpoint that the reason for his low votes was several netizens disliked that he favored the ABS-CBN shutdown in 2020. A few days before Eviction Night, his old tweets and posts in support of the shutdown resurfaced online; hence, his joining of Kapamilya reality show became a controversial topic, even inside the PBB house.
Prior to his eviction, Russu admitted in this Pop Cinema interview that his previous support of the shutdown was influenced by what his close circle on social media were posting and later realized that it was wrong to be easily swayed by others’ opinions without fact-checking. Kuya may have forgiven Russu as he showed regret and owned up to his mistake, but we have yet to know what others think now that he has entered back into society.

In this interview clip, Russu talked about how his life has been since the eviction. “Hindi naging madali ‘yung paglabas ko pero naging blessed po ako sa mga nangyayari sa akin ngayon. Kasi may mga tao pong nakita ko na nagmamahal po talaga sa akin,” he shares.
He said he still tries to look at the positive things to come out of this experience and, of course, treats it as a continuous stepping-stone to growth and change. Russu added, “After PBB, sobrang lesson po natutunan ko dito sa buhay ko… Sobrang blessed ko po na napagdaanan ko ‘to.”
Russu will face many more challenges in his journey but, like this experience, he’ll just have to emerge stronger. Watch the whole Pop Cinema interview to know more on Russu’s story.
