He used to regularly amuse us every week as one of the hilarious and talented cast members of the comedy gag show Banana Sundae. But as the country was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, which was worsened by the shutting down of ABS-CBN last year, he’s among the talents whose television career unfortunately plummeted.
And more than a year since the last time we probably saw him on TV, seasoned comedian Pooh appeared in a recent episode of FYE Channel’s Kumu Star Ka, wherein he imparted how the current situation has terribly affected him.
“Actually, malaki ang epekto sa akin niyan kasi kumbaga, ‘yong ABS-CBN, parang siya ‘yong bahay ko. Tapos doon nakikita ng mga tao kung anong ginagawa ko sa bahay na ‘yon and then mai-inivite ako ng mga tao para mag-perform sa mga activities nila – corporates, out-of-town, out-of-country. So, noong nawala ‘yong bahay ko, lahat sila sabay-sabay ding nawala. Sinabayan pa nitong pandemya. Sobrang napakalaking epekto talaga sa’kin ng nangyari na ‘to,” he related.
Pooh then went on to reminisce how he used to only dream of working and finishing his studies in Manila and how his comedic prowess was discovered. While becoming a stand-up comedian never crossed his mind in his younger years, but everything just unfolded for him.
He then talked about how his impersonation of boxing champ Senator Manny Pacquiao started overnight because of his friend Dong Piloto. It may not be a part of his plans, yet it’s among his performances that truly clicked and became popular to the audiences.
Meanwhile, with regards to the jokes and funny antics that he delivered and did in the past, he disclosed that the most hilarious he’s ever done were the ones that aren’t actually funny.
