Over the years, we’ve seen a number of movie and TV adaptation of the Carlo J. Caparas’ masterpiece “Ang Panday” ever since it was published as comic series during the late 70s. Its titular character went on to become a Philippine pop culture icon when it was adapted into a film for the first time in 1980, topbilled by the late King of Philippine Movies Fernando Poe Jr.
But have you ever wondered what if the lead character is going to be a she? Well, the daughter of FPJ Lovi Poe expressed her interest to take on the role of “Babaeng Panday” during her interview with the King of Talk Boy Abunda in his FYE Channel show “The Best Talk”.
“Everyone keeps asking me what kind of movie do you want to do or is there anything else that you would like to do. And I was like, I’ve never done an action film, surprisingly. I’m 15 years already in my career pero ‘di ko pa po ‘yon nagagawa. And I think wala po akong nakikitang babaeng panday, and I think it’s very important to showcase our ability as women na kaya din naming mag-portray ng characters na usually lalaki ang gumaganap,” she related.
The host imparted that he really found it interesting to know that the 32-year-old actress is inclined to do a remake of one of her beloved father’s flicks, not as the leading lady, but as the main character. He also relayed his gratitude to her dad and his contemporaries for paving the way for the younger generation of television and movie entertainers.
Lovi is set to star in the Filipino adaptation of the Korean drama series “Flower of Evil” opposite Piolo Pascual.
