What’s better seeing two world-renowned singing icons go head-to-head with their combined vocal prowess? Seeing them just be regular folks who compliment just “normal” things like their sense of fashion, their taste in music, and whatnot.
In this video, we see Lea Salonga casually complimenting Regine Velasquez’s makeup skills. Both artists have been in the industry for as long as we can remember and no wonder they knew things about each other that no one else did.
Lea shares how she admires the fact that the Asia’s Songbird has been consistently doing her own makeup by herself. She points out how that skill “takes so much dedication and discipline.” Anyone who’s ever had to do his or her own makeup would probably have to agree with Lea here because we all know that putting on makeup is both a science and an art in itself.
The best part about this video would have to do with the thing that we all might be wondering about our favorite Kapamilya artists — that is — if they are not who they are now, what could they be doing. In the video, Lea jokingly asks Regine if she has ever considered doing makeup professionally as a possibly second career.
This got the Regine giggling and, of course, she responds in a way even non-showbiz peeps can relate — “Hindi naman ako pwedeng laging magpunta ng parlor… so I had to really learn how to put my own makeup,” Regine recalls.
Regine was also really proud to share who her makeup icon was from then until now and it’s none other than Fanny Serrano. And because YouTube wasn’t even a thing back then, Regine would offer to pay her siblings just so she can practice putting on makeup. Now, that’s what I’d call hard work!
So to answer Lea’s question if Regine could actually make a living as a makeup artist, well, the answer is yes! Regine shares how at one point she was given a chance by Filipino fashion designer John Herrera to do a model’s makeup during a fashion show. The experience was nerve-wracking but she pulled through. Congrats, Regine!
