We all miss John Lloyd Cruz and his impressive, unforgettable onscreen appearances when he stepped out of showbiz temporarily. With his long absence and void in his illustrious acting career, would anyone think that his self-imposed sabbatical was all worth it?
If you see John Lloyd now, particularly in this rare virtual chat with King of Talk Boy Abunda on CinemaOne’s “The Best Talk” streamed on the FYE Channel’s Kumu account and CinemaOne’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, it definitely seems it was. And it’s all because he is now a dedicated, doting dad to his son Elias with ex-girlfriend Ellen Adarna.
Asked about his current state of mind, John Lloyd told Tito Boy: “Wala na yatang mas liligaya pa kapag meron kang maliit na anak.” He continued his answer by acknowledging his son; Elias, as his “little savior.”
Such time with his son is something he really relishes and makes him want to get back to him anytime he likes, moments he would not want to let go of. “’Yung oras talaga, ‘di mo maibabalik,” John Lloyd emphasized, as he savors being with Elias as he grows up.
But John Lloyd recognizes the fact that he needs to continue working for his son’s sake. “Kailangan pa rin magtrabaho,” he noted.
Asked if he would make a showbiz comeback soon, John Lloyd interjected by mentioning that he actually never stopped doing his craft. “Kahit tumigil ako sa network job, hindi ako tumigil sa paggawa ng sining,” he stressed. But he added he chose to take that necessary leave from the entertainment scene because it “felt abnormal na ‘di mo magawa ‘yung gusto mo.”
“Naging abnormal ‘yung hindi magawa ‘yung tingin mong pinapaniwalaan mong dapat magawa sa mga sandaling ‘yun na parang nagdaan ng ilang taon din,” John Lloyd said, stressing he never regretted leaving showbiz for a long while. “’Yung importansya na magawa ‘yung paniniwala mo ‘yung gusto mong gawin, I think, ‘yun ang mahalaga.”
