After months of waiting, one of 2022’s highly anticipated Kapamilya series is finally hitting our screens – Flower of Evil – beginning this weekend!
It can be recalled that it was in November 2021 when ABS-CBN welcomed newcomer Lovie Poe and, at the same time, announced that it’s going to do a local adaptation of the award-winning South Korean drama of the same title, with the actress and Ultimate Heartthrob Piolo Pascual going to star in it. And it’s now finally here!
Aside from the fact that this is the first time that Piolo and Lovi will be working together, not to mention being teamed-up with one another, let’s find out the five reasons why the Filipino version of Flower of Evil is also definitely worth-watching.
It’s interesting premise
For avid fans of crime and suspense-thriller narratives, or for those who are just simply looking for something new and fresh to watch, then this series is definitely for you!
Staying faithful to the concept of the original Korean version, Flower of Evil will follow the story of couple Jacob and Iris, whose lovely relationship is going to be tested by the dark secrets the husband has been hiding from his tough detective wife. Based on the trailer, Iris (Lovi) will be assigned to investigate a case that’s similar to the horrible murder that happened in the fictitious town of Corazon many years. This makes her really determined to hunt down the alleged suspect behind it – Daniel Villareal, who, unbeknown to her, is actually her husband.
Is Iris going to let truth and justice shatter the happy and lovely life she shares with Jacob and their daughter Luna (Sienna Stevens)? Well, that’s for us to find out.
It is Piolo Pascual’s teleserye comeback
Amidst the rumors badgering him in the recent years, Piolo truly delighted us when he still chooses to be loyal to his home through the years. And what’s a greater way to mark his 30th anniversary in showbiz than taking part in a project that he has probably not done yet before, right? Besides, this also serves as his return to teleseryes since 2018, when he topbilled Since I Found You alongside Arci Muñoz.
Throughout his acting career, we’ve seen the “Ultimate Leading Man” take on different roles in various films and TV programs, wherein he’s able to exhibit his talent and versatility as a dramatic actor.
And in Flower of Evil, we’re going to see him in a different light as he portrays Jacob, a loving husband working as a metal craftsman, who actually keeps a dark secret from his wife Iris (Lovi). But, will he let his wife discover the truth behind his identity?
It is Lovi Poe’s first-ever project as a Kapamilya
Being one of the brightest stars in the local entertainment scene, Lovi’s transfer to ABS-CBN was something that we didn’t see coming. And now, she’s here to astound Kapamilya viewers with her award-winning acting prowess that she apparently got from her father, the late King of Philippine Movies Fernando Poe Jr.
Flower of Evil serves as her debut project as a Kapamilya, wherein she will portray Iris, a dutiful wife and hands-on mom who also works as a hard-hitting detective. She sees her husband Jacob as perfect, without knowing that he’s actually hiding a terrible secret from her and just deceiving her by assuming a false identity. One of the cases she would handle is seemingly going to lead her in unraveling the truth and discovering who Jacob really is.
In this series, we’re going to witness different facets of the “Supreme Actress” – from a sultry, dramatic actress to an impressive action star – which we haven’t probably seen before.
Its stellar ensemble cast
Aside from the first-ever pairing of Piolo and Lovi and the exhilarating narrative, we should also look forward on the stellar pool of supporting cast whose characters will either make the narrative extra exciting and intriguing, or will simply put a different flavor to it.
The full trailer and the photos from the story conference reveal that veteran thespians Rita Avila, Agot Isidro, Edu Manzano, Archie Adamos, Pinky Amador, Joko Diaz, Epy Quizon, Robert Seña, and Jett Pangan will be part of it. Seasoned actors JC de Vera, Joem Bascon, Denise Laurel, and Joross Gamboa are also going to be onboard.
Providing a ray of sunshine and dash of cuteness is child star Sienna Stevens, who will play the beloved unica hija of Piolo and Lovi’s characters Jacob and Iris.
It’s a Darnel Joy Villaflor and Richard Ibasco Arellano masterpiece
Not only one, but two seasoned directors are teaming up for this local adaptation – Direk Darnel Joy Villaflor and Direk Richard Ibasco Arellano.
Direk Darnel has been in the industry for years now and has helmed several Kapamilya teleseryes that we surely all loved. Among the teleseryes he directed were Huwag Kang Mangamba (2021), Walang Hanggang Paalam (2020), 24/7 (2020), Sandugo (2019), Starla (2019), Sino Ang Maysala Mea Culpa (2019), Kadenang Ginto (2018), Wansapantaym’s Gelli In A Bottle (2018), The Promise of Forever (2017), On The Wings Of Love (2015), Nathaniel (2015), Dyesebel (2014), and Honesto (2013), as well as the iWantTFC original film “Love Lockdown” was released in 2020.
Meanwhile, Direk Richard has been in the industry for quite some time, with teleseryes Ngayon At Kailanman (2018), Bagani (2018), and La Luna Sangre (2017), and the romantic-comedy digital series “The House Arrest of Us” starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, as among his works.
