We were indeed all shocked when the news of Philippine showbiz icon Cherie Gil’s unforeseen death spread like wildfire on social media last August 5. Her demise is truly mourned by people whose lives she touched, especially by celebrities who had the opportunity to work with her in the past five decades that she’d been in the local entertainment scene.
And one of them is Liza Soberano, her co-star in the 2016 ABS-CBN primetime series “Dolce Amore.” Those who were able to watch it would know that they played as mother and daughter, with Liza portraying Serena, the loving yet quite rebellious adopted daughter of Cherie’s domineering yet affectionate character Luciana Marchesa.
Thus, the young actress took to Instagram last August 7 to pay tribute to her Mama Luciana by posting a set of snaps and clips of their adorable and unforgettable moments on-and-off the set of “Dolce Amore.” She wrote in the caption, “Had the honor and privilege of working side by side with one of the industry’s greatest @macherieamour. Will forever be guided by your lessons and philosophies in acting and in life. You left us way too soon but your art and soul will remain with us forever. Thank you, [sic].”
The late award-winning actress may have the reputation of being the “La Primera Contravida,” or the prime villain because of the iconic scary yet sophisticated antagonist roles that she took on in the teleseryes and movies she starred in through the years, but her colleagues described her otherwise. She’s actually the exact opposite in real life, as they expressed how they admire her for being genuine, kind, witty, and charming.
We may not all be able to meet her in the flesh when she was still alive, but her photos in this gallery showing her “Dolce Amore” moments on-and-off-cam are proofs that she’s indeed one of the most admirable and inspiring actresses that we ever have in the industry.
May you rest in eternal peace, Cherie. You will be sorely missed.
