“Sana dumating ‘yung panahon na ‘yung nararamdaman mo para kay Alexa, maramdaman mo rin naman para sa akin,” confessed Lala (Jennica Garcia) to Max (Christian Bables) in an episode of Dirty Linen, sending viewers to a place of ‘kilig’, and also pity, as we all know she’s waiting for a love that might never happen.

Here’s a heartbreaking edition of Friday 5 collating scenes of Lala and her unrequited love for Max.

The video montage opens with Lala and Max’s reunion. She, of course, was ecstatic to see him. And though he answered with a joke, she still greeted him with so much fervor, which fizzled out when Alexa (Janine Gutierrez) butted in.

As the story deepened, the characters’ true emotions were slowly unravelled as well. Lala got vocal about her feelings for Max, who, whether he admits it or not, is obviously in love with Alexa. This sometimes creates tension, especially when Max responds with indifference because he’s more concerned about Alexa/Mila.

In one scene, Lala detailed their next assignment involving Hector (Ping Medina). While Max acknowledged her plans, she observed that he's crazily worried as Alexa went missing. Lala insisted that she’s helping with the search and that she knows their friend might be in danger. But, doesn’t she deserve their concern as well? She feels like putting her life on the line for their mission, yet nobody notices, “Ang akin lang, hindi tumitigil ang buhay n’yo para sa akin. Hindi kagaya ng ginagawa mo ngayon.”

In the next scene, she laments that Max doesn’t even want to eat because of Alexa. She implied that he needs the energy to be able to continue with the search. She might have sounded triggered and jealous, but reading between the lines, we could sense her concern toward Max.

The thing about unrequited love is that the one person gives while the other isn’t even moved. Our hearts broke with Lala’s when she finally confessed to Max and almost begged for him to love her back. “Sana dumating ‘yung panahon na ‘yung nararamdaman mo para kay Alexa, maramdaman mo rin naman para sa akin… Alam ko ‘yan kasi ganyan ‘yung nararamdaman ko para sa’yo. Kaya nasasaktan ako. Nasasaktan mo ‘ko kasi alam ko kung ano ‘yung nararamdaman mo. Gusto kita, eh. Pero ‘di ba hindi mo ako gusto?”

And for the first time, we saw the tough girl burst into genuine tears of love and pain.
