Can money buy love? Joao answers in “Can Buy or Can’t Buy” Challenge

Kapamilya series “Can’t Buy Me Love,” starring Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano, poses the question, “If money can buy happiness, can it buy love?”

Kapamilya Chat asked one of the series’ cast members Joao Constancia his thoughts via “Can Buy or Can’t Buy Challenge.” He answered, “Love is something that you have to earn, to gain, to work hard for to show that it’s real. You can’t buy it talaga. You have to work for it, and mararamdaman mo ‘yun, eh. Mararamdaman mo ‘yung pag-ibig na binibigay mo at nare-receive mo. Hindi ‘yun nabibili.”

In the said challenge, Joao admitted that he can’t buy a house and lot and a new car yet, but he hopes to in the future, especially a new car since it’s a necessity in his line of work. Buying a house and a car is part of his goals, though he still has other priorities.

While he can buy the latest gadgets, he's wise enough to know his needs, and a gadget isn’t one of them, “Hindi ko naman kailangan, so hindi ko bibilhin.” He pondered, “You don’t need to buy the latest gadget just to show off your status o ipakita mo na may pera ka. Kung hindi mo naman kailangan, huwag mo muna bilhin. It’s not a necessity, it’s just a want.”

On expensive watches, he said that he’s been into buying watches lately, but not the pricey ones. Instead, he splurged on an international vacation, specifically a Japan tour with his family, and he aims to travel more. He fell in love with Japan, so much so that he wishes to go back there and explore other cities.

He wouldn’t mind spending on his comfort food as well, which is ramen.

Meanwhile, Joao believes that money can’t buy friends, “True friends aren’t there for your money. They’re there for you.”  He can attest that friendships are priceless, “I’ve seen other people who try to buy friends, invite friends with materialistic stuff. In the end, hinahabol lang talaga nila ‘yung pera mo, so you can’t buy friends.”

And no matter how rich and powerful you are, you can’t buy time as well, “As much as we all want to buy time, it doesn’t stop for anyone talaga. It’s on-going. So, every moment is precious, use your time wisely talaga.”
