As we all got locked out of our homes and food establishments had limited operations in the past four months of the community quarantine, for sure, we have craved for the delectable food we usually order in our favourite restaurants.
While some of us depended on ordering, there are some who unleashed the kitchen whiz in them as they decided to prepare homemade versions of their favorites with the help of video tutorials available online. Just like up-and-rising star Kaori Oinuma who gleefully imparted her take on the staple and well-loved Japanese dish Steamed Baked Sushi in the seventh episode of “Caldero Files.”
Even though it sounds expensive, the ingredients the “Kawaii Daughter of Japan” used in this easy-to-do recipe are affordable and available in nearby groceries and supermarkets. She used white rice, Japanese mayonnaise, canned tuna, cheese, and hot sauce.
She also turned her cooking session extra fun and exciting as she let her cousins Princess, Paolo, and Ivan ask her random questions in a simple “Never Have I Ever” game, wherein she revealed whether or not she cheated on a test, fallen asleep in a class, cut her own hair, been late in school, or cried at a party, while she demonstrated the step-by-step procedure of preparing the Steamed Baked Sushi.
Despite having the word “baked” on its name, this dish actually does not need baking nor use of microwave oven because it can be cooked by simply putting a steamer plate atop a casserole with boiling water and wait for 10 minutes for it to be cooked and prepared.
As doing this for the first time made Kaori nervous, those jitters were eventually gone when she tasted it for it looked and tasted good! She also let her cousins and mom try it and they all approved it!
