There’s definitely no doubt that tinola is among the most popular Filipino dishes because it’s one of the most favorite viands in every Pinoy household both here in the Philippines and abroad. While chicken is the most common meat or main ingredient used in cooking it, but have you ever heard of Tinolang Tahong?
As bizarre as it may seem, there’s indeed such thing and that’s what actress Jennica Garcia-Uytingco shared to us in the eighth episode of Online Kapamilya Shows’ “Caldero Files”!
If you want to try cooking this at home, make sure to buy these following ingredients on your next trip to the market:
1 kilo mussels (or tahong)
2 pcs sayote, sliced
1 pc onion, minced
4 cloves garlic, minced
4 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 cup malunggay
1 liter of water
fish sauce (or patis)
black pepper (or pamintang buo)
ginger (or luya), minced
And just in case you don’t know how to cook tinola yet, follow this procedure:
Step 1: Saute garlic, onion, and ginger in a casserole/deep pan.
Step 2: Put the mussels (tahong). Wait until all the shells are open.
Step 3: Pour the one liter of water and let it simmer.
Step 4: Once the soup boils, put the sayote. Once it’s already cooked, sprinkle the black pepper and pour a few teaspoons of fish sauce according to desired taste.
Step 5: Put the one cup of malunggay and let it simmer for a few minutes.
Step 6: Serve with love!
She was accompanied by her beloved and supportive husband and actor Alwyn Uytingco, who was holding the camera for her and even teasing her while she’s cooking. In between every step, the soft-spoken Jennica enthusiastically imparted stories about how her life has been since she got married in February 2014, which made her decide to stay away from the limelight in the past five years and focus instead on taking good care of her husband and their two adorable daughters Athena Mori and Alexis Severina.
The 30-year-old star who was last seen in the “Jacket” episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya in 2019 and made a special participation in the controversial 2017 revenge drama Wildflower as the teenage Emilia Ardiente (Aiko Melendez), further related what kept her occupied during her time out of show business.
Alwyn might have jestingly adjudged his lovely wife’s cooking, but he had gone speechless upon tasting the outcome of her cooking.
