Just because life forced him to commit terrible things doesn’t mean Tanggol (Coco Martin) is incapable of doing good deeds. He also fervidly prays to Jesus Nazarene, showing us that even if tragedies and pain come, we can choose to respond with faith each time.

These scenes of Tanggol showing his devotion to Hesus Nazareno will also inspire you to restore and strengthen your prayer life this Holy Week.

Raised in the streets of Quiapo, Tanggol cultivated a deep faith in the Black Nazarene, turning to prayer for miracles and protection from harm at all times. But he does not act blameless despite his religious fervor. He acknowledges that he also needs help and forgiveness for committing a multitude of sins.

In the poignant scene where he and his friends found themselves incarcerated for the first time, he silently beseeched for a miracle from God, pleading for a second chance to rectify their wayward path.

Upon being transferred to the correctional facility where they endured abuses and faced even harsher trials, he fervently prayed to Jesus, pleading for his friends to be spared from punishment as he was willing to carry the burden alone. He also poured out his humility and confessed to Jesus through prayer his remorse for all his mistakes.

He also did not forget to visit the Quiapo church when he had the chance to go out of jail to carry out Chief Espinas (Jacklyn Jose)’s missions for him. He prayed for enlightenment and forgiveness from Jesus Nazarene after he was forced to take another person’s life under Chief Espinas's orders in exchange for his friends' safety. He also prayed for the chance to see Mokang (Lovi Poe) again; this prayer was answered but only to lead to another test of faith.

Don’t miss an episode of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, airing weeknights, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, TV5, and A2Z.
