Katherine (Ara Davao) feels isolated in their mansion, even though her grandpa Facundo (Jaime Fabregas) and her brother Pablo (Elijah Canlas) are there to listen to her. She doesn't feel the genuine love and acceptance of a family. That's why their helper, Tindeng (Charo Santos), feels like an angel sent from heaven. Katherine has grown close to Tindeng and turns to her when she needs to release her pent-up emotions. She knows Tindeng will never judge her and will offer empathy and wise words to help her understand what she's going through.
In this Friday 5 video, we've put together scenes of Katherine turning to Tindeng during times of sadness in "FPJ’s Batang Quiapo."
The wisdom of a grandmother lasts forever. Katherine isn't close to her strict 'mamita,' but she has found a 'lola' figure in Tindeng. In one scene, Katherine enjoyed Tindeng's cooking of fried rice and sautéed sardines, a new taste for her. Curious, she asked about Tindeng's family and learned that she has three grandsons. Tindeng shared that if she had a granddaughter, she would have loved teaching her household chores and how to be brave and stand up for herself—exactly what Katherine needs.
It seemed the universe had a reason for bringing Tindeng and Katherine together: for the older woman to impart her wisdom to the younger one, especially on matters of the heart. In one scene, Katherine sought Tindeng's opinion about a wealthy suitor her 'mamita' was pressuring her to accept, even though she had no feelings for him. Tindeng's advice was balanced; she suggested that Katherine give her grandmother a chance and get to know the suitor, as she might discover some good qualities in him.
In turn, Katherine acts as the angel reminding Tindeng that goodness still exists in the Caballero mansion. When Bettina insulted Tindeng and accused her of stealing jewelry, which was later found to be misplaced in her room, it was Katherine who apologized for her grandmother's behavior.
No formal education is needed to be wise in life; sometimes, all it takes is experience, and Tindeng has plenty of it. When Katherine was deeply hurt by Bettina's remark that her only role in the family was to increase their wealth by marrying a rich man, she sought comfort from Tindeng, who offered her support indirectly by using metaphors about the mangoes on their table. She had to speak in this veiled way because Facundo had forbidden her from talking to Katherine.
But in recent episodes, Facundo has allowed Tindeng to converse with the young Caballero. They even secretly went to Quiapo to visit Tindeng's family. Will Katherine's heart and mind be changed by their trip to Quiapo?
