As soon as "FPJ's Batang Quiapo" unveiled its next chapter in celebration of its second year, we, viewers eagerly anticipated the introduction of new characters. We knew these characters would add more thrill to the narrative. True to expectations, the series surprised us with the arrival of Marcelo (Nonie Buencamino), who happens to be Olga (Irma Adlawn)’s former flame, and Bubbles (Ivana Alawi)’s biological father.
Of course, there’s no doubt about Nonie’s award-winning talent which undoubtedly makes Marcelo a whole lot more interesting. Watch some of his highlight scenes via this edition of Kapamilya Toplist.
It's truly exhilarating to witness the dynamic between Nonie and Coco Martin's Tanggol – the sheer star power they exude individually, and even more so when they're together on screen. Their characters crossed paths at the correctional facility after Marcelo's arrest due to his connections with a mafia involving the Caballero family.
The two got instant rapport when Marcelo witnessed Tanggol's impressive fight and survival skills, which he thought could add potential to his group outside the correctional. Subtly, he maneuvered to gain Tanggol's trust, first, by accompanying him in his escape. He advised him of a better option, and that was to return to jail while assuring him that he would exert utmost efforts to help him get acquitted of the charges against him.
Marcelo stayed true to his word and used his connections to secure a skilled lawyer for Tanggol and his friends. While he succeeded in securing Tanggol's acquittal, unfortunately, his friends would remain incarcerated.
Nonie has also delivered captivating performances alongside Soliman Cruz, who portrays Celso in the story. When talking to the likes of Celso, those he fails to impress, Marcelo delivers his lines in a way that hints at his cunning nature, while also injecting comic relief through his sarcastic retorts.
The star power also burns deep in his scenes with Jaclyn Jose’s Chief Espinas, as their characters don’t get along well due to Chief Espinas’s annoyance with Marcelo’s arrogant demeanor and attempt to make a good impression with the other inmates and jail officers.
Marcelo is certainly one interesting character. Follow his and Tanggol’s journey in “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” weeknights, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, TV5, and A2Z.
