As he amuses viewers with his portrayal of Baste, the kind and humble owner of the bar where the characters of Coco Martin and Ivana Alawi work in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, you’ll certainly admire seasoned actor Niño Muhlach more once you find out that he’s actually a cool and responsible dad to his children in real life.

Although we’ve already seen his sons Sandro and Alonzo on television several times already, as both of them have followed in his footsteps in showbiz, with Sandro being a contract artist of GMA 7 while Alonzo being a child star of ABS-CBN for quite some time, not much is known about their close-knit bond as father and sons. Thus, many are delighted to see the three of them together in an interview with veteran broadcast journalist Karen Davila in 2023 on her YouTube channel.

There, the “Forever Child Star” revealed that he actually has three children from three different women, with his eldest and only daughter now part of the US Navy. His marriage with Sandro’s mom just got divorced in 2023, while he’s been in an almost two-decade relationship with Alonzo’s mother, Diane Abby Tupaz.

When asked by Karen how they found out that their dad is famous, Sandro related that he’s been aware of his dad’s fame ever since he was a kid because Niño used to bring him on the set of some of the projects that he did.

Meanwhile, Alonzo got to watch his movies, but he couldn’t comprehend his stardom until he entered the local entertainment scene as well. According to him, his dad assisted him with his script reading and acting, as well as reminded him of the proper way of dealing with people and to always be humble and kind.

It can be recalled that Alonzo appeared in a number of Kapamilya shows, namely, “Goin’ Bulilit,” “Pablo S. Gomez’s Inday Bote” (2015), “Wansapanataym: Yamishita’s Treasure” (2015), and “Your Face Sounds Familiar Season 1” (2016).

“As a father, he’s very caring. He will never leave you, kunwari may problema ka. Ang mindset ni Papa, there’s always a solution to your problems,” Alonzo described Niño. Sandro echoed this by saying that the former “child wonder” is very approachable and easy to talk to.

While many would probably assume that Sandro was able to get into the industry due to his influence, Niño clarified that he actually went through the normal process of auditions by himself with no special treatment. Sandro also wanted it that way since he wished to make a name for himself through his own hard work and efforts instead of simply riding on the fame of his dad and of the other members of their family who are in showbiz as well.

Despite having different moms and growing up with different interests and personalities, Sandro and Alonzo still managed to form a tight bond. Even though Niño insisted that he doesn’t play favorites, Sandro believes that it’s Alonzo between them.

While he’s been with Alonzo ever since he was born, Niño revealed that it actually took him a long time before he was able to meet Sandro. Now that he’s already an adult, Sandro decided to live with his dad because he really wanted to form a bond with him and Alonzo.

Speaking of forming a bond, Niño shared that their favorite activities to do together are scuba diving, playing billiards and badminton, and watching movies.
