John Estrada interviews Mccoy & Victor

With how mean, manipulative, and arrogant both their characters Rigor and David are, not to mention how they gang up at Tanggol (Coco Martin) and Tindeng (Charo Santos) as they regard them as the destroyers of their family, viewers of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo are certainly annoyed at John Estrada and McCoy de Leon. The same goes with Victor Silayan, whose arrogance as PLt Luis Jacobe also piques us sometimes.

But even though their characters irate us so much, John, McCoy, and Victor are all admirable in real life because of how their pleasant personalities totally complement their swooning good looks. And we’re to see that through their lighthearted and insightful conversation in the latest video uploaded on John’s YouTube channel.

The seasoned actor began the interview by having Victor and McCoy revisit how their respective showbiz careers started. Victor recounted that he was discovered after his business was featured in the defunct talk show of “Kris Aquino” in 2014. One of the producers asked him if he was ever interested to try showbiz, which he accepted and then led to his acting debut in the 2015 Star Cinema flick “The Love Affair” starring Bea Alonzo, Dawn Zulueta, and Richard Gomez. Moreover, unbeknown to many, he is the grandson of legendary actor Vic Silayan and the nephew of beauty queen-turned-actress Chat Silayan.

McCoy, on the other hand, divulged that his foray into acting was inspired by his father who used to be a theater thespian. He then became a talent himself in commercials and television shows, with the highly successful 2012 daytime drama Be Careful With My Heart being his first-ever stint in ABS-CBN. He eventually became part of Star Magic and It’s Showtime’s in-house boy group Hashtags prior to joining Pinoy Big Brother Lucky Season 7. Since then, his acting career continuously thrived up to the present and he amazes us as David in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.

And speaking of his infamous character, Mccoy revealed that the very first person to get exasperated by David was his dad, who told him how irritating his facial expressions really are. He also confessed to assuming that FPJ’s Batang Quiapo is going to be his last project after getting entangled in a controversy at the beginning of 2023. But the praises and wisdom he got from John and their co-actor-slash-director Coco Martin are what propelled him to keep going.

John then related how much they admire Coco’s unbelievable skill in scouting for actors that he would include in the series.

When quizzed about how he feels about portraying his role as Lt. Jacobe, Victor conveyed how he absolutely feels blessed to be given this opportunity as it also boosted his career. Thus, he loves his character so much.

McCoy also feels the same towards David, despite being one of the most hated figures on Philippine TV at present, as it allows him to explore the kontrabida arc and his capabilities as an actor. At the same time, he’s thankful for the opportunity to work with some of the esteemed actors in the local entertainment scene, such as John, Charo Santos, Cherry Pie Picache, Lou Veloso, Christopher de Leon, and Irma Adlawan. According to him, David wouldn’t be established without the support and pieces of advice that he’s been getting from them.

While other artists his age might perceive it as the senior actors being condescending and domineering towards the younger ones, McCoy sees it as their way of showing concern for him and his way of learning more and further improving himself.

Maganda talaga ‘yong grupo natin, talagang buo. Tuwang-tuwa nga si direk natin, si boss, ang ating hari dahil nakikita niya na nag-e-effort talaga ang bawat isa,” John remarked.

Their fun conversation capped off with John asking the two about their respective love lives, with Victor divulging that he’s been married to his wife for two years now and they have been trying to conceive. McCoy, on the other hand, is also living a happier life with his partner Elisse Joson and their unica hija Felize.

Making a surprise appearance at the end of the video was their co-actor Renz Joshua "Baby Giant" Baña, who plays one of Tanggol’s friends Rowell "Oweng" Bulawan.

Catch them on FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, weeknights at 8PM, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, TV5 and A2Z.
