Lovi Poe thanks Coco Martin for keeping alive FPJ’s stories

Coco Martin and Lovi Poe in one project is the definition of a dream come true! In case you missed it, the royalties will join forces in the 2023 Kapamilya series FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, an adaptation of Fernando Poe Jr.’s 1986 movie of the same title.

There has been a loud clamor for Coco to remake “Batang Quiapo” as soon as FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano ended last August. Aware of a teleserye’s uplifting effect on its viewers, the Primetime King decided to grant everyone’s request, “Kung ito ‘yung gusto o hinihingi ng mga tao, bakit hindi ito ‘yung ibibigay namin o ihahain namin sa aming manonood?” he said during his new series’ story conference.

He added, “Alam ko mahirap, sobrang stressed. Pero bahala na. Alam ko hindi naman ako pababayaan ng Diyos, eh.”

Aside from the insistent public demand, Coco picked “Batang Quiapo” for its unique concept and the presentation of very rich Pinoy culture.

Coco, who is also co-directing the series, will be joined by an all-star cast ensemble, “Lahat ng mga artistang kasama ko dito, talagang lahat sila malalapit sa puso ko.” One thing Coco’s fans anticipate in his every project is his chosen leading lady.

With “Batang Quiapo,” it’s only fitting that he would be paired with FPJ’s daughter, Lovi, who feels nothing but excitement on remaking one of her dad’s most iconic films. “This is probably the first time I’m doing something that my dad’s ever made,” she said.

She also thanked Coco for his hard work to immortalize FPJ’s legacy, “To Coco, thank you, I am so excited na makatrabaho kita finally. Thank you again kasi pinagpapatuloy mo ‘yung story ni Papa.”

Since transferring to ABS-CBN in 2021, Lovi has been very vocal about her wish to follow in her dad’s footsteps and act with Coco himself, “Before, jino-joke ko, ‘Kailan kaya ako makakapasok sa FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano?’ But right now, to be part of ‘Batang Quiapo’ has even exceeded my dream.”

Joining Coco and Lovi's refreshing tandem are Charo Santos, Lito Lapid, Christopher de Leon, John Estrada, Tommy Abuel, Pen Medina, Susan Africa, Cherry Pie Picache, Allan Paule, Mark Lapid, Ronwaldo Martin, and Mercedes Cabral.

The original “Batang Quiapo” film is an action-comedy about Manila’s pickpocket kingpin Baldo (FPJ), who is determined to start a decent life after his time in prison. He meets a young female thief named Maria (Maricel Soriano) asking him to take her as an apprentice, but instead, he tries to put her on the right path.
