She may be abhorred because of being treacherous and wicked, but we couldn’t help but also admire Olga (Irma Adlawan) for being a good and dependable friend to the gullible and gutless Marites (Cherry Pie Picache) despite her ulterior motives to their family, particularly to Tanggol (Coco Martin), in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
In the past weeks, avid viewers of the top-rating ABS-CBN primetime series have certainly witnessed how Olga, who introduced herself to the Dimaguiba family as “Beng” in order to conceal her true identity, has become a certified “Marisol” to Marites.
Just in case you’re not aware yet, “Marisol” is short for “Mareng Tagasulsol,” which pertains to a person who further stirs up a malicious intrigue or negative situation to make matters worse, incense more an already angry person or group, or escalate a conflict. And that’s what she did to Marites when she provoked her to heed her instincts and find out herself if her husband Rigor (John Estrada) and his colleague Lena (Mercedes Cabral) are indeed having an extramarital affair.
Now that it’s already confirmed and the pregnant Lena already lives together with their family in Quiapo, let’s look back on the amusing moments of Marites and her “Marisol” in this Kapamilya Update feature!
It all started when Olga learned from Marites about Tindeng’s (Charo Santos) claim that she and Noy (Lou Veloso) caught Rigor and Lena kissing, which became the root cause of their misunderstanding. As Marites told her that she didn’t have any evidence to prove it yet and they’re still ironing things out, Olga asked her what her instinct was telling her. She then suggested that they follow her in order to see for themselves if Tindeng and Noy were telling the truth.
Since Marites was still hesitant, Olga attempted to trigger her insecurity by enumerating to her what a mistress like Lena can do to completely obtain the love and attention of Rigor, which includes dolling herself up to look more beautiful and being extra affectionate and caring to her husband to the point that he would choose Lena over her when the time comes.
Rigor might have come home the night when they followed Lena to her house, but Marites still found it quite difficult to be at peace, especially when Rigor brought a bag containing several clothes the following day as he left for work – which he didn’t usually do. Upon hearing this, Olga warned her that Rigor was perhaps either going to stay the night at Lena’s place or already bringing some of his stuff there for his probable transfer in the future.
The next day, Marites frantically updated Olga that the clothes Rigor brought home smelled like a woman’s perfume, which convinced her that there was really something going on between them. Marites was – again – hesitant to confront Rigor about it, but Olga’s power as a provoker was so strong that she was able to persuade her that they check on him and his then-alleged “other woman” at the police station.
Upon learning from Mando (Allan Paule) that Rigor left the office early that day for unknown reasons, this further intensified the intuition of the two women. So, they went straight to Lena’s place and there they caught her and Rigor having a steamy moment on her couch – much to the devastation of Marites. A scandal ensued as Marites brought their quarrel on the street in her attempt to vilify her out of rage.
As she came to visit again the following day to check on her and catch up on what happened when they got home, Olga found out from Marites that Rigor got Lena pregnant and she even allowed her to live with them. When asked by Olga why she let it just slide, Marites explained that Rigor suffered for a long time because of her and she felt the need to pay him back.
Apparently in utter disbelief of her friend’s fragility and foolishness, Olga wasn’t able to help herself from nagging at Marites. She told her, “Sige, sabihin na nating mahal mo talaga ang asawa mo. Pero napakatanga mo naman. Rukrukan ka na ng katangahan. Pero hindi naman ibig sabihin na tanga ka, hahayaan mo na lang na bastusin ka nila, lulunukin mo ang dignidad mo?”
Regardless if she has ulterior motives in helping Marites with her marital woes and family problems, we arguably want to believe that Olga is simply that woman who wants to empower another woman so that Marites will finally realize her worth, learn to love and respect herself, and fight for her rights as a woman and wife. So, it’s really quite hard to be mad at Olga in this aspect, right?
Watch out for more “Marisol” moments of Olga in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, weeknights at 8 PM, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and TV5.
