If you are a sucker for love teams, Kiko Estrada and Michelle Vito are here to fulfill your hopeless romantic fantasies. Kapamilya series Bagong Umaga gave birth to this newest tandem to ‘stan’ as they play street smart buddies whose closeness would deepen, and maybe get complicated, after some kilig encounters.
We saw nothing but great chemistry since Kiko and Michelle’s first scene as Otep and Angge wherein they ended up in a one-on-one Cara y Cruz (or kara-krus) match in the streets.
The newcomer Otep was in search of a potential friend in the area, so he found one in Angge after crushing her luck in that game. Strangers no more, he insisted that she takes her money back upon learning snippets of her financial woes.
The kismet-ushered and well-calculated encounter paved the way for their friendship. Otep would be a constant help in Angge’s daily hustle, even having their ‘food trip’ dates just so he can buy from her rolling store. Her Lola even assumed that he is her suitor.
Her honesty deepens their connection even more. She would open up about her feelings for Ely (Tony Labrusca) and her thoughts about her best friend, Tisay (Heaven Peralejo). She’d always say that Tisay is close to perfection, a girl she wouldn’t dare compete with. But Tisay never treated her wrong, so she’d never feel jealous and envious of her even if she’s the threat to her dream relationship with Ely.
Hearing Angge downplay her own potential seems to open up Otep’s heart for her. He would hint at his ‘feelings,’ even asking her to woo him instead. And when a guy as mysterious as Otep bares and fights his feelings through little romantic clues, fresh kilig vibes are served.
They soon worked for the same non-government organization, giving Angge more financial security than just selling ‘sari-sari’ items in the streets. More so, it pulled her closer to Otep. There was a scene where she received a sweet coffee surprise from him and an invite to hang out after their duties. But all she could think of was her huge crush on Ely.
Later, Angge would get her heart broken. And she would run to Otep for comfort, leading them in a drinking session in a private room. Tipsy and sad, he cried her misery away and wondered if she isn’t lovable enough. She heard Otep say that not all guys are drawn to mere physical beauty but she’s too insecure to believe.
Instead, she asked him for a kiss. The anticipation builds up and so does the kilig as Otep tries not to give in. After all the tension and an endearing banter, the moment finally strikes to set up the romantic night.
They both agreed to just forget about the one-night stand and remain buddies without feeling awkward. But won’t the feelings get deeper and more real and complicated? Follow Angge and Otep’s story in Bagong Umaga, after It’s Showtime on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live and A2Z Channel 11.
