Life may not come with a manual but, thankfully, we have parents or parental figures to run to in times of trouble. Take a look at how Jose (Keempee de Leon) and Monica (Nikki Valdez) provide Tisay (Heaven Peralejo) with nuggets of wisdom and advice that will help her navigate life, shown in these scenes from Bagong Umaga.
The couple is blessed with a bright chid, a cum laude. But despite this gift, Jose and Monica stress that a good heart is more important than medals. They also praise Tisay for her desire to become a journalist and fight for the powerless.
On taking things that do not belong to them, they lectured Tisay, Dodong (Yves Flores), and Angge (Michelle Vito) that stealing is wrong even if others are doing it. Besides, the end does not justify the means. Jose emphasized that a wrongful action will only taint their honor and integrity no matter how noble the intention is. And for a budding journalist like Tisay, breaking her morals will only jeopardize her dreams. She was enlightened to always cling to honesty and compassion.
Add to that their words of wisdom about being open to forgiveness. They reminded their daughter to still treat Cai (Barbie Imperial) with gentleness despite the latter’s harsh behavior. After all, they only see Cai’s exterior and not her soul.
In another scene, Jose told Tisay not to misinterpret Angge’s needs as entirely financial or tangible. He said that people don’t always need someone who would solve their problems for them but someone willing to listen. Sometimes a comforting presence is the best kind of help one could offer.
Of course, Jose and Monica are willing to pass on the love lessons they collated over the years. They are the best portraits of great love and they want their children to learn by their example. “Ginawa namin lahat para ipakita sa inyo kung ano ang tama. Kasama na doon ang ipakita sa inyo kung ano ang pagmamahal. Dapat alam mo kung paano magmahal, mahalin, at alagaan,” Monica said. She also reminded her that love is not abusive.
The doting mom also has something to say about Tisay’s budding romance with Ely (Tony Labrusca). She instilled in her the importance of clarity and communication in a relationship, saying they are old enough to play games and run away from their feelings.
While their experiences and wisdom comes in handy, Jose and Monica respect Tisay’s freedom. They let her be her own person and figure out her own dreams. At the end of the day, all they could do is support her decisions with a promise that no amount of mistakes can lessen their love for her.
For Jose and Monica, Tisay is their miracle and the joy that redeemed their biggest heartbreak in the past. Follow the Magbanua family’s story in Bagong Umaga, Monday to Friday after It’s Showtime on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z Channel 11.
