Kapamilyas, we are off to a new dawn! This October, ABS-CBN will continue to bring fresh teleseryes that will keep viewers entertained, hopeful, and empowered. The line-up of new shows includes the drama series Bagong Umaga topbilled by the new generation of promising artists.
In this episode of Kapamilya Chat, Bagong Umaga cast members Kiko Estrada and Michelle Vito talked about the show and gave us an exciting set tour.
Michelle currently juggles two major teleseryes – the primetime soap Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin and Bagong Umaga. The outpouring of blessings and the trust from the management sometimes leave her speechless. She’d run out of words to describe the overwhelming feeling of gratitude.
“Nu’ng ginawa ko ‘yung Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin, grabe na ‘yung feeling na may pandemic pero may work pa rin. After nu’n nagkaroon pa ng bagong show. Grabe talaga! Wala akong masabi. Nagpapasalamat ako kay God at sa mga bossing natin na pinagkatiwalaan talaga ako,” expressed Michelle.
The Kapamilya actress takes a break from the typical sosy mean girl characters for something completely opposite. She’s Angge, the poor and street-smart ‘jologs.’ “Survivor ako dito. Hindi ako lumaking mayaman. Sa araw-araw ng buhay ko, gumagawa ako ng ways para may kainin kami ng nagpalaki sa akin,” she revealed.
Michelle buckles down to portray a role far from her real life. “Kapag jologs ka, iba ‘yung pagka-bargas mo. Iba ‘yung actions mo, iba ‘yung the way ka magsalita. Hindi naman talaga ako ganun magsalita at kumilos. So, medyo mahirap. Malayo siya as Michelle and sa mga characters na nagawa ko before,” she added.
After the success of Pamilya Ko, Kiko is back via Kapamilya Channel. He is likewise grateful and excited for fans to watch the story, characters, and the whole outcome of the show he would describe as timely and relatable.
Kiko breathes life to the multifaceted character of Otep, the guy with many personalities. “He lives a double life. He’s a bit mysterious in ways pero once you get to know him, you’ll slowly understand why he’s like that. Gusto kong ma-explore kung sino si Otep ‘pag kasama niya ‘yung stepmom niya at ‘pag kasama ‘yung barkada niya,” he teased.
The artists are thankful to everybody mounting the series from the directors for guiding them in their portrayals to the production staff for keeping them safe. Of course, they’re happy to receive positive feedback from excited viewers since the show was announced earlier this month. The netizens gushed over the release of its promotional poster.
Spectators are treated with some heart-rending drama and life lessons from Bagong Umaga as it reflects the diverse reality of life. “It’s about the life of different people in different situations, so anyone can relate. May paghuhugutan ang mga tao sa show na ‘to. They’ll find good values. They’ll find gray characters kasi ‘yun ang real life, eh. Real people are gray, not black and white,” Kiko explained.
They are building friendships on the set. Kiko hopes this group grows as bonded as the Pamilya Ko Mabunga siblings whose closeness went beyond the cameras. “We all talk na we want to be good friends. Like, after the show if someone asks us, ‘How’s Bagong Umaga?’ we’ll all say, ‘solid ‘yun.’ That’s our goal and hopefully we can achieve it,” said Kiko.
Age gap isn’t a problem on the set. The young stars hit it off with the seasoned and veteran actors. Michelle revealed that they get acting lessons from the senior artists and they appreciate these acts of generosity.
Before Bagong Umaga airs on Kapamilya Channel and Kapamilya Online Live, Kiko and Michelle are giving us a quick set tour.
As seen in Kiko and Michelle’s mini-vlog, the whole team strictly adheres to “new normal” protocols. They had to limit the number of people on the set. Wearing of facemasks and face shields are strictly implemented even while they’re on a break. Workdays are limited to a 12-hour period.
While social distancing is practiced, the cast manages to build chemistry and rapport by their ‘kulitan’ antics. And Yves Flores would be on top of the hilarious shenanigans. Kiko would call himself the ‘mysterious’ one while Michelle is the chill among them all.
The duo brought us to their workplaces, standby area, makeup and wardrobe corner, director’s area, and the set where the scenes are shot.
We also got a glimpse of the other cast members Glydel Mercado, Nikki Valdez, and Kempee de Leon. Seasoned actors Rio Locsin, Cris Villanueva, Bernadette Allyson, Moi Bien are also part of the series. Bagong Umaga is topbilled by Kiko Estrada, Tony Labrusca, Yves Flores, Michelle Vito, Barbie Imperial, and Heaven Peralejo.
