When Alex (Gerald Anderson) entered the military, he never thought of finding love at the most unexpected place. Similarly, Lourd (Sue Ramirez) vowed to never fall in love again, at least not with another soldier. But destiny has a different plan. Amidst the chaos and war, Alex and Lourd would find solace and hope in each other. As the “A Soldier’s Heart: The Final Salute” comes, here’s a romantic montage of the pair’s love story that blossomed at the camp and warzones.
Sparks fly on Alex and Lourd’s first encounter in the ladies’ room when he accidentally went in due to an emergency. She feigned annoyance towards him since then. She acted stern at all times. But deep inside, Lourd knew that Alex has an unexplainable effect on her. She felt the butterflies but used the tough exterior to defy her feelings.
These two had a different way of making viewers kilig–through violent reactions and awkward encounters. The audiences felt the chemistry loud when Lourd punched Alex after he accidentally hit her with a ball in a basketball match with his buddies at the camp. But instead of feeling hurt, Alex seemed to have liked the punishment and he even appeared wanting for more. That was the first time their comrades saw the romantic potential. So, the teases have never stopped since then.
Fate did its assignment well when Alex was transferred to Lourd’s troop for a time. She kept on giving him a hard time but her innate softness sold her out. When Lourd picked up Alex’s phone and conversed with Minda (Mickey Ferriols) while he was away, the curious mother assumed Lourd as her son’s girlfriend. We, for that moment, prayed that law of attraction may work quickly!
One defining moment in their ‘relationship’ was when Alex bade her goodbye and confessed his feelings before leaving for the Scout Ranger training. Alex didn’t plan to violate the fraternization rule, so he promised to keep up with Lourd’s ranking to be able to pursue her. “’Pag officer na ako, liligawan na kita, Ma’am,” he said. And as we all know, Alex keeps his promises.
There’s really something about Alex and Lourd’s awkwardness that could spark kilig. Perhaps it’s the obvious strong feelings of love supressed out of fear and duty. They were both figured in an intense skirmish with the rebels, wherein they both sustained wounds and were trapped in the woods. She insisted to fix his bandage while she also endured an arm injury. They leaned closer to and gazed at each other’s eyes. The love song “Sasagipin Kita” played in the background, giving their solid shippers an immersive and thrilling moment.
In a lighter succeeding scene, Alex was stunned by Lourd’s feminine aura when she arrived in a floral dress at the Marasigans’ dinner treat. Peppered with teases from their friends and Alex’s parents, that scene was sheer evidence of the blossoming love. Thanks to his supportive and borderline pushy Mama Minda, the lovestruck Alex had the chance to drive Lourd home via his motorcycle while his family is out for groceries on his birthday eve.
And on his birthday celebration at home, Alex was once again bewitched by Lourd’s beauty when she arrived with his birthday cake.
The list wouldn’t be complete without including Alex and Lourd’s first kiss. She finally broke down her walls and the promise of not to fall for a soldier again. She took the risk and he was more than ready to keep her.
A series of roadblocks put their love to the test. However difficult, Alex and Lourd made it by holding on to their promises. They trust each other despite other people’s judgment especially on Alex who’s been accused of conniving with his family of rebels. Whatever happens then, Alex and Lourd knew which sides to listen to.
As they continued to face adversities, Alex and Lourd only had their promises and love to hold on to. He vowed to make it up to her once the chaos ends.
