“Never stop dreaming.”
This was A Soldier’s Heart lead actor Gerald Anderson’s caption in an Instagram post bearing a photo of him at a basketball court wearing his Marikina Shoemasters jersey. It may seem cliché to others, but these three words is what he lives up to for years up to the present.
He has always been vocal about his passion for sports, especially his love for basketball. Whenever Star Magic’s All-Star Game is held, he is always present to play the yearly face-off among seasoned and new Kapamilya heartthrobs. In the 2018 All-Star Game,he successfully led his Blue Team in winning the annual basketball match as its Team Captain, which was really a superb triumph. But, he wants more than just showing off in exhibition games against fellow actors, as he really yearns to play basketball professionally.
Thus, his inclusion in the roster of the Marikina’s Ball Club in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League is truly a dream come true for him.
In his Magandang Buhay interview in 2019, Gerald expressed how overwhelmed he was to be part of a legit pro league, which was a childhood dream while growing up in General Santos City. In the ongoing MPBL season, the seasoned actor said he continues to play hard for the Shoemasters and keeps himself in tiptop shape during scrimmages and workouts. Besides, he’s a good team player on the hardcourt too, which is something he applies in everything he does.
Prior to becoming a professional basketball player, Gerald didn’t only play in amateur competitions, but also got involved in basketball clinics that aimed to enkindle the interest of youngsters to the sport, as well as to hone their skills. He also established a sports club and gym business, which offers basketball trainings for young ones and facilities for those who love to work out and play hoops like him.
His achievements are truly an inspiration for many, especially his fans, right? He only proves that with dedication, passion and hard work, nothing can stop us from attaining our dreams.
Wishing you the best on your basketball career, Gerald!
