From touching our hearts with the characters that he portrayed as a child star in the 90s and early 2000s, bankable Kapamilya actor Carlo Aquino continues to astound us with his incredible performances both on television and film in the recent years. And this 2020, he’s about to amaze us anew with his stint in the upcoming action-drama series A Soldier’s Heart.
As we look forward on seeing him take on the character of a soldier named Abe Kamlun, let’s revisit some of the roles he brilliantly played in the previous years.
Just like many of the celebrities we idolize and adore at present, he also kickstarted his career in the local entertainment scene as a promising child star. He might have considered himself to be not as talented as his contemporaries, but his charisma was enough for him to score a spot in the iconic 90’s youth-oriented program Ang TV.
His impressive acting prowess got noticed, ensuing to his appearance in a slew of narrative programs, such as Star Drama Presents (1993-2001) and Familia Zaragoza (1995-1996), Pahina (2000-2001), at Sa Puso Ko Iingatan Ka (2001).
But it was his unforgettable stint in the youth-oriented drama G-Mik (1999-2002) that turned him into a household name as his team-up with fellow child star-turned-real-life flame Angelica Panganiban was fully embraced by the viewers and garnered huge throng of supporters.
The 17-year-old Carlo then appeared in the 2002 teen-oriented program Berks, which he top-billed along with perennial loveteam partner Angelica and other brightest and talented teen stars of their generation.
He eventually became a part of the 2004 fantasy superserye Krystala headlined by award-winning actress Judy Ann Santos as Giwal.
Before his shocking transfer to a rival network in 2006, he tore our hearts as Oman in the 2006 primetime drama Bituing Walang Ningning, the best friend of Sarah Geronimo’s character who’s secretly in love with her,
After six years, Carlo delighted us with his comeback in ABS-CBN through his gigs in Wansapanataym and Maalaala Mo Kaya, which was succeeded by his special participation in Carlo J. Caparas’ Dugong Buhay and in the incarnation of the classic 80’s family drama Annaliza, wherein he was the antagonist Markus “Makoy” Diaz.
In 2014, we were able to see him in the Zanjoe Marudo and Jana Agoncillo-starrer Dream Dad, playing the young Eliseo Javier (Ariel Ureta). A year after, he was among the headliners of Flordeliza, which marked the teleserye comeback of Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal’s ever-popular tandem.
The year 2016 had been a productive year for him as he scored two projects, namely We Will Survive and FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. He was Pocholo Rustia in We Will Survive, the love interest of Melai Cantiveros’ character, while he had a brief stint in the long-running primetime series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano as a whistleblower named Marlon Aguilar.
Carlo once again showcased his dramatic chops in the 2017 afternoon drama The Better Half, as he compellingly portrayed Marco Saison, a man who found himself torn between the admiration of his former secret lover Bianca (Denise Laurel) and his love for the woman he left behind Camille (Shaina Magdayao) after suffering from amnesia.
His special participation in the daytime series Playhouse indeed brought nostalgia to those who have been following his showbiz journey as his character Dr. Harold Miguel developed a romantic bond with female protagonist Patty, which was played by his former on-and-off-screen partner Angelica Panganiban.
Aside from these programs, Carlo also lent his acting skills in ABS-CBN anthologies namely, Your Song Presents, Ipaglaban Mo, and Give Love On Christmas.
Are you excited as us to see him in another exciting character? Well, you better not miss an episode of A Soldier’s Heart beginning January 20 on Primetime Bida.
