ASAP Natin ‘To went back live on Sunday, June 14, featuring its iconic hosts offering viewers a rare back-to-back concert experience on the Kapamilya Channel.
These legendary artists performed one after another to offer a surreal collection of their greatest hits, classic tunes, artist tributes, movie and teleserye theme songs.
The seven icons—Sarah Geronimo-Guidicelli, Piolo Pascual, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Erik Santos, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid—gave spine-tingling performances marking ASAP Natin ‘To’s return after live shows halted amid the start of the enhanced community quarantine.
The Popstar Royalty opted to go all-original when she took center stage first, impressively dishing her most famous chart-toppers “Misteryo” and “Kilometro” before singing a new track, “Duyan”. Sarah G. would end her set with her viral, worldwide hit sensation “Tala.”
Ultimate heartthrob Piolo went next with his own versions of Jim Brickman’s “The Gift,” Lewis Capaldi’s “Before You Go” and ended with One Republic’s smash “Something I Need.”
A trip down memory lane filled viewers hearts when the Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla basked in the spotlight with her classics: “Point of No Return,” “Mambobola,” “Ikaw Lamang,” her very first recorded song Willy Cruz’s “Kahit Na,” and concluded with George Canseco’s “Hiram.”
Erik Santos then made a sentimental entrance with his rendition of a song that launched his career, “I Believe I Can Fly,” which he described as one that clearly resonated his journey as an artist. He would then croon a medley of movie OSTs he sang---the title themes of “Now That I’ve Found You” and “Miss You Like Crazy,” and “I’ll Never Go” from “One More Chance.” As the King of Teleserye Theme Songs, he would make us recall his vocals in anthems from Maria la del Barrio (“Pagbigyang Muli”), Precious Hearts Romances Presents Bud Brothers (“Kung Sa Akin Ang Mundo”), and My Binondo Girl (“Kulang Ako Kung Wala Ka”).
A highlight of the back-to-back concert experience is certainly the Concert King himself, Martin Nievera, who also brought back down memory lane with his rarely performed greatest hits, mostly from 1980s. Showing how much he is indeed a total concert performer, Martin gave outstanding renditions of “Please Don’t Throw My Love Away,” “How Can I?,” and his very first multi-platinum seller “Be My Lady.” He would go on to sing the Louie Ocampo composition “Say That You Love Me” and his breakout 1984 Metropop Song Festival winner “Pain.”
Martin would then prove he’s the country’s ace balladeer with “Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin,” the riveting “Kahit Isang Saglit,” and wrapping up his set with the Canseco standard “Ikaw.”
Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano then brought his lively, pulsating vibe on the ASAP Natin ‘To stage with his trademark high-octane moves performing a medley of OPM dance classics with the G-Force. His set included a mix of the Boyfriends’ “Sumayaw Sumunod,” Hotdog’s “Bongga Ka ‘Day,” and VST & Co.’s “Tayo’y Magsayawan” and “Awitin Mo.”
Capping the ASAP Natin ‘To comeback episode was Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid paying tribute to her forever idol, Barbra Streisand. She would deliver unforgettable renditions of Streisand classics over the years—“Songbird,” “The Way We Were,” “Evergreen,” “The Way He Makes Me Feel,” “No Matter What Happens,” and “Somewhere.”
ASAP Natin ‘To’s back-to-back concert experience certainly showcased Filipino music artistry at its best bringing in the best talents in one memorable afternoon.
Catch these world-class performances weekly on ASAP Natin ‘To Sundays noontime on the Kapamilya Channel.
