True to its hashtag #ASAPmusicFest, award-winning variety show ASAP Natin ‘To indeed treated us to another episode filled with exhilarating and fantastic performances from our very talented and awesome homies, which was aired last Sunday, October 16.
Welcoming us to the all-star Sunday afternoon party were Robi Domingo and OPM icons Martin Nievera and Ogie Alcasid, which kicked off through an enlivening Eraserheads-inspired opening number wherein the ASAP family performed a few of their greatest hits, starting off with “Pare Ko,” while they were riding and surrounding a Volkswagen Kombi onstage.
Concert King Martin and D’ Ultimate Performer Darren Espanto continued to sing “Pare Ko”, which was followed by the electrifying rendition of “Magasin” by KZ Tandingan, Janine Berdin, and Sheena Belarmino. Edward Barber, Joao Constancia, and Jameson Blake swooned us with their grooves afterwards.
OPM legendary singer-songwriter Ogie, Enchong Dee, and Nyoy Volante sang “Toyang”, with Chienna Filomeno and Maymay Entrata provided the thrilling dance break. Zsa Zsa Padilla, Anji Salvacion, and Elha Nympha got us singing along to their version of “Alapaap”, while Krystal Brimner, Karina Bautista, Charlie Dizon, and Vivoree Esclito impressed us with their dance moves.
Erik Santos, Jeremy Glinoga, and Jason Dy thrilled us with their rendition of “Ligaya”, to which AC Bonifacio showed her electrifying dance moves. Lastly, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Kyla, and Angeline Quinto wowed us with “Huling El Bimbo”, and were later on joined by the rest of the ASAP homies as they went back onstage.
Before the commercial break, the ASAP fambam thanked the Asian Academy Awards for hailing ASAP Natin ‘To as the National Winner for the Best Music or Dance Programme this year, as well as congratulated the members of the ASAP family who won in the recently-concluded 13th PMPC Star Awards and Maymay for being nominated in the MTV Europe Music Awards 2022 for the Best Asian Act category. They also didn’t forget to greet Kaye Cantong, the vocalist of the show’s resident band Six Part Invention, as she celebrates her birthday and Angeline Quinto for her successful concert tour and engagement with non-showbiz partner Nonrev Daquina.
After making us kilig with their pick-up line, flying kiss, delivery of their favorite song lyrics ala-dramatic actor, sexy photo, and wake up alarm recorded for their fans in the mini game “I Dare You”, ASAP Rockoustic Heartthrobs KD Estrada and Kice went on to serenade us with a mashup of One Direction’s “Story of My Life” and “Night Changes”.
Maymay, Vivoree, and Anji then impressed us with their vocals as they sang Claire Marlo’s “Till They Take My Heart Away”, Cathy Dennis’ “Too Many Walls” alongside Divine Diva Zsa Zsa and Asia’s Songbird Regine. Girl power was indeed on in this episode as AC and Sheena once again came face-to-face in the “Clash Dance” segment due to insistent public demand.
Of course, the guys didn’t let themselves be left behind as Martin, Ogie, Nyoy, Erik, and Jason lulled us with Lionel Richie’s classic ballads “Still” and “Truly”, that became among our favorites through the years.
As Asia’s Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan marks her 10th anniversary in show business this year, the ASAP family made sure to give her a remarkable tribute by having her fellow singers Kyla, Angeline, Erik, and Janine sang “Marupok” and “Imposible” alongside her. She then wasn’t able to conceal her kilig when her beloved husband TJ Monterde surprisingly emerged onstage to join her in singing “Dodong”, a song that she wrote for him months before their engagement in 2019.
When asked by the Concert King what her most memorable experience is in the past decade, she imparted the first thing that came to mind – that time when Martin took her into their house in the early days of her career, even though he didn’t know her yet that much. It can be recalled that Martin was among the judges and mentors of X-Factor Philippines, in which KZ was named the grand winner.
“Hinding-hindi ko po makakalimutan ‘yon. Hindi po ako siguro aabot ng 10 years kung hindi po ako tinulungan ni Martin Nievera at ng buong pamilya niya at the very beginning. I was a stranger na pinatira niya sa bahay niya, and that is very rare for somebody in his stature to do. So, sobra po akong thankful. It’s not only 10th anniversary, but it is our 10th anniversary as a family,” she related, which made Martin shed a tear.
Her very own “X-Factor”, TJ, of course, conveyed his heartwarming message for her, reminding her that amidst her insecurities, there’s a lot of people who look up to her, including him.
“I wanna thank everybody who’s been there from the very beginning. Hindi ko man kayo kilala lahat, but lahat po kayo na bumoto from the very beginning, lahat ng nag-stream ng music ko, lahat ng mga nanood ng music videos [at] ng concerts, thank you for making my dreams come true, for making me who I am today,” she expressed.
She continued, “Maraming-marami salamat po sa managements ko, Star Magic and Cornerstone. Thank you so much for making me believe in myself and for seeing something na ‘di ko nakikita dati. Thank you so much for making me embrace who I am. Thank you so much, my ASAP family for celebrating my 10th year. ‘Di biro umabot ng 10 years [and] ‘di natin alam kung may 11 o 12 pa. Ten years is such a big, big milestone, so thank you for celebrating it with me.”
KZ didn’t forget to thank her husband, as well, for not just being her guest that day, but her driver and personal assistant, too.
Led by Asia’s Pop Heartthrob Darren, New Gen Birit Boys Lucas Garcia, Bryan Chong, Reiven Umali, and Sam Mangubat serenaded us with their swooning renditions of “Binibini” by Zack Tabudlo and “Unang Sayaw” by Nobita.
As the music fest continued, dancefloor hotties Chie, Charlie, Krystal, Karina, Joao, Edward, Jameson, and Enchong dominated the ASAP stage as they gave us to a “hum-bam!” performance alongside one of the country’s premiere dance group G-Force and esteemed dance instructor Georcelle Dapat-Sy.
Our very own Pinoy Pop girl group BINI also treated their beloved fans, fondly called “Blooms”, prior to their upcoming album launch on October 28 by performing “Strings”, the carrier-single of their sophomore album “Feel Good”.
And for the closing salvo, the OPM icons and New Gen Birit Idols had provided us an ultimate listening (and singing along) sesh anew as they showcased their duets of some of the classic slow rock hits that we’ve love through the years in The Greatest Showdown.
Martin Nievera and Elha Nympha started off the set with Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight”, and were followed by Ogie Alcasid and Khimo Gumatay’s impressive rendition of Nazareth’s “Love Hurts”. Zsa Zsa Padilla and Laine Duran then sang Heart’s “What About Love”, while Erik Santos and Janine Berdin ave their own take to Harem Scarem’s “Honestly”.
We eventually heard a slew of Scorpions’ songs, with Angeline Quinto and JM Yosures rocked the stage with “Always Somewhere”, KZ Tandingan and Sheena Belarmino blew our minds with their powerful vocals in singing “Still Loving You”, while Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and Lara Maigue gave an operatic take on “Holiday”.
