In the recent weeks, we’ve been hearing the LSS-inducing track “Marikit” that eventually spawned to a trending dance challenge. As many of us are wondering who are the awesome dudes behind it, iWant ASAP invited them on the show last Sunday, June 28, to know more about their highly successful masterpiece.
Patrick Caoile and Kyle Caplis weren’t able to conceal the happiness and excitement they felt as Maymay Entrata and Robi Domingo interviewed them via video call and even showed them the iWant ASAP hosts’ exclusive version of the viral hit. The up-and-rising artists also made us bop with their live performance of the song prior to the said brief yet fun conversation.
“Nakakatuwa po kasi nagkaroon sila ng panahon saka libangan sa bahay ngayong quarantine. Nagkaroon sila ng pagkakaabalahan,” Patrick, who’s also known as Juan Caoile, said when asked about their reaction on the continuously-growing popularity of their song, which they revealed was a product of their collaboration and pertains to the “previous girls” in their lives.
Juan then added, “Pero actually po, ‘yung Marikit po na song, general po talaga. Kahit sino pa kayo, pwedeng lalaki, pwedeng babae. Basta pinapatamaan po namin kayo para mas ma-emphasize namin na lahat kayo maganda…You’re all beautiful.”
They went on to describe how a “marikit” or gorgeous lady looks like for them, and jestingly declared Maymay as a good example. This made her loveteam partner and co-host Edward Barber to suddenly pop out on-screen, exclaimed “Hoy”, and displayed a cynical look.
When asked regarding their message to their supporters, Juan uttered, “Mga Kapamilya, maraming-maraming salamat po sa pagsuporta [at] sa pakikinig ng local music, OPM natin ngayon. Ang patuloy lang po tayo sa pagsuporta.”
They also promoted the official music video of “Marikit” that would be uploaded later that day on the YouTube channel of Juan Caoile, which has now earned thousands of views.
Just a few weeks after its official release last May 21, “Marikit” amazingly skyrocketed to the number one spot to the three playlists curated by music streaming app Spotify, namely Viral 50 Global, Viral 50 Philippines , and Top 15 Philippines.
