While many of us are busy with our Easter Sunday activities left and right, there are some of us who probably chose to just chill at home. And for those who stayed at home, ASAP Natin ‘To indeed gave them a fantastic treat in its latest episode last Sunday, April 17, through the surprise performances of our favorite Kapamilya stars!
Concert King Martin Nievera commenced the show with an invigorating opening spiels for the birthday tribute of the one and only Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid. Starting off the celebration were Jona, Janine Berdin, Elha Nympha, Klarisse de Guzman, and MNL48 with their invigorating rendition of “Promdi.” Idol Philippines alumni Shanaia Gomez, Fana, and Lucas Garcia kept the energy high with “Urong Sulong.”
AC Bonifacio, Janella Salvador, and Kim Chiu mesmerized us as they grooved to “Hot Stuff,” while Enchong Dee, Robi Domingo, Jeremy Glinoga, Krystal Brimner, and Kyle Echarri as they danced to “Shake Your Groove Thing.” Sheena Belarmino, Lara Maigue, Reiven Umali, JM Yosures, and Jason Dy then hyped everyone up with “Fly”.
Regine then emerged on the stage as she belted out “What Kind of Fool Am I.” It was followed by her duets with other ASAP Natin ‘To stars, singing “You Are My Song” with Martin Nievera, “Follow The Sun” with Moira Dela Torre, “I Can” with Zsa Zsa Padilla, “Dadalhin” with KZ Tandingan, and “Araw Gabi” with all of them.
She then received heartwarming messages from her Mommy V and husband Ogie Alcasid, to which she turned emotional as she remembered her late father Mang Gerry. However, she tried to lighten up the mood as she expressed her gratitude to her whole ASAP family.
“Being here in ASAP is such a joy for me. ‘Yong mga pinagdaanan natin noong mga nakaraang taon, it has been really, really hard for all of us. Kung wala ‘yong ASAP, it would have been harder for me, so I just wanna say ‘thank you’ to everyone,” she uttered.
As ABS-CBN’s premier talent arm Star Magic marks its 30th anniversary this year, the “Star Magic Band” was introduced, which were comprised by Isaiah Dela Cruz on lead guitar, Maris Racal on rhythm guitar, Nyoy Volante on bass guitar and as the musical director, Kim Chiu on drums, Robi Domingo on keyboards, and Janine Berdin and Jed Madela on vocals. They rocked the stage with their cover of Sampaguita’s iconic hit “Bonggahan.”
Avid fans of He’s Into Her surely got thrilled as the “Bearkada” – led by Belle Mariano, Vivoree, Kaori Oinuma, Jeremiah Lisbo, Joao Constancia, and Criza Taa – made an appearance by dancing to Shehyee and Sam Pinto’s “Trip Lang.” Leading man Donny Pangilinan made us kilig when he appeared in a video to invite everyone to watch the highly anticipated He’s Into Her Season 2.
The invigorating dance production was succeeded by a powerful sing-off among the New Gen Birit Idols, wherein they performed some of the hits of the rock artists we admire. JM Yosures sang Joan Osborne’s “One Of Us,” Janine belted out Alanis Morisette’s “All I Really Want”, Reiven Umali showed his versatility through No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak”, Fana wowed with her version of P!nk’s “Try”, while Elha Nympha exhibited her power vocals through The Cranberries’ “Ode To My Family”.
Ogie Alcasid, Erik Santos, Yeng Constantino, Jed Madela, Nyoy Volante, and Kyla also rocked out to the iconic hits of the American rock band TOTO, namely “I’ll Be Over You” and “I Won’t Hold You Back”.
From all-time favorite classic hits, Maris Racal performed her latest single “Pumila Ka” with up-and-coming artist Raven, which was followed by Darren Espanto’s collaboration with This Band as they sang “Di Na Babalik.”
Another proud April baby, Kim Chiu, proved why she’s the “Queen of the Dancefloor” as she delivered a fiery dance number to celebrate her birthday. She also became emotional as she expressed how grateful she is to her ASAP Natin ‘To family and loved ones as well.
“Thank you, of course, to my ASAP family for not giving up on me. Sobra-sobra ‘yong pagmamahal, suporta at tiwala na binibigay n’yo sa’kin. To all the staff, Direk Joan, everybody na bumubuo ng ASAP…thank you sa tiyaga na binibigay n’yo sa’kin all these years. Fifteen years na akong sumasayaw dito sa ASAP and I am just so happy and thankful for all the opportunity na binibigay n’yo po sa akin. Salamat sa tiwala at pagmamahal. Thank you for not giving up on me,” she tearfully conveyed.
Aside from the birthday celebrations of Regine and Kim, as well as the upcoming return of He’s Into Her, ASAP Natin ‘To also celebrated the success of ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN Foundation’s “Tulong-tulong sa Pag-ahon: Isang Daan sa Pagtutulungan” for its “Operation Odette” donation drive, which aimed to extend help to those severely affected by the devastating Typhoon Odette last year. To express the endless gratitude of ABS-CBN, an all-star ASAP Kapamilya song number capped off the episode, in which Kapamilya singers moved us with their renditions of Darren Espanto’s “Sasagipin Kita”, Fatima Soriano’s “Mahiwaga”, and Rico J. Puno’s “May Bukas Pa”.
