Last April, Maris Racal released a new single titled “Abot Langit.” On the same day that the song was released on all digital platforms like Spotify, iTunes and Apple Music, the music video of the said song also premiered on the Star Music YouTube channel. Maris produced the said song with OPM legend Rico Blanco, who is considered to be one of the greatest singer-songwriters in the country.
Rico’s cameo moment
Days after, Rico posted a cute picture of his cameo moment on the official music video for “Abot Langit” and divulged some details about his collaboration with Maris through his Instagram account saying:
“#AbotLangit is this gorgeous pop nugget. I’ve had the pleasure of composing alongside the talented @mariesteller who came up w the main idea, hooks, and a charming naughty/nice vocal perfect for our little nod to the japanese #citypop vibe we both dig. I played all the instruments/programming, and arranged/produced/engineered/mixed/mastered as well. the track is available on all digital streaming/download, has a MV up on Youtube (produced by maris), and has been gaining more traction than I expected. Meanwhile, in her many interviews after the song was released, Maris has been very vocal that the song is a dream come true for her. In a press conference, Maris herself shared how she always looked up to Rico Blanco and how surreal it has been for her to have been able to collaborate with him.
Maris’ efforts to reach dream collab
Maris also bared the efforts she did just to reach her dream collaboration with Rico. In this episode of iWant ASAP, Maris divulged her eagerness to work with the former Rivermaya frontman.
Maris shared, “Dati pa lang, siguro mga 20 years old [or] 19 years old pa ‘ko no’n… Sinasabihan ko na si Direk Alma kasi alam kong medyo friends sila, magkakilala sila. Sinasabihan ko na: Direk, sabihan mo si Rico na mag-collab kami and then for a while, hindi nangyari.”
