A few days after her latest single “Ate Sandali” was released, multitalented young artist Maris Racal dropped by the latest episode of iWant ASAP last Sunday, June 27, to promote and talk about it with hosts Robi Domingo, Maymay Entrata, and Edward Barber.
“Itong ‘Ate Sandali’, sinulat ko ‘to a few years ago. At that time, brokenhearted kami ng ate ko, as in sabay talaga kami. Parang na-inspire lang ako kasi parang ang dami kong gustong sabihin sa kanya, at the same time parang ang dami ko ring gustong sabihin sa sarili ko. Sinulat ko na lang siya,” she related when asked to impart further details regarding the song.
As Edward asked why it took her a long time to share it to the world, Maris said that she wasn’t confident enough to do it then and she thought that her fans were perhaps not prepared yet to that kind of song. Besides, she thought that the right time to really share it is now, when Pinoy Pop is thriving.
She also went on to spill something about her upcoming mini album, which according to her will definitely get her supporters “shookt” with the refreshing sound she’s going to offer through the tracks included in it.
The fun conversation then veered to her blooming romance with OPM icon Rico Blanco, after Robi mentioned how the “vibe” of “Ate Sandali” reminded him of the rockstar’s “Fiesto Bandido” and quizzed her on how he’s able to help her in improving the song.
“Actually, marami siyang contribution sa song na ‘to,” she began as she git distracted upon hearing in the background “Abot Langit”, which is her first collaboration with him. “Meron siyang contribution dito kasi siyempre siya ‘yong nag-produce ng ‘Ate Sandali’ so ang dami niya ring dinagdag na sound na ‘di ko in-expect na magiging gano’n pala ang tunog. Although before, lagi kong sinasabi na ito ‘yong vision ko, ito ang gusto kong marinig and sinunod niya na lang. Tapos marami siyang dinagdag, mas pinaganda pa nga.”
With regards to the love lesson she has learned from her current experiences, Maris simply replied, “Sa point-of-view ko ngayon at sa realizations ko ngayon, the best kind of love is ‘yong love na ‘di mo ine-expect na dumating.”
The interview wrapped up with Robi asking her if it’s possible for her to perform on ASAP Natin ‘To with Rico, to which she responded, “Siguro, yes. Wala naming impossible.”
