We didn’t have to wait for Throwback Thursday nor Flashback Friday as ASAP Natin ‘To took us to an exciting trip down memory lane as it featured wonderful and astounding performances of Kapamilya artists of the songs that brought us back to where it hits us the most in its episode last Sunday, January 31.
Tagged #ASAPNatinToHitback, the episode commenced to a remarkable back-to-back disco party spearheaded by the talented seasoned Kapamilya singers that truly made us get our groove on!
Gary Valenciano proved that he’s not hailed the “Pure Energy” for nothing through his energy-charged rendition of the “Boogie Wonderland”. The same went for the Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla who delighted us with her delightful take on the Alicia Bridges hit “I Love The Nightlife”.
For a rare instance, Philippine Prince of Pop showed that aside from singing, he could actually bust some moves too, in his “Shake Your Booty” production number. And he indeed did it very well!
Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, along with fellow veteran performers, Gary, Zsa Zsa, Erik, Martin Nievera, and her husband Ogie Alcasid, kept us all dancing in their powerhouse performance of “Shake Your Groove Thing” – as their way of showing the world how to party the ASAP Natin ‘To way.
As they moved out of the stage, it was reel-and-real life sweethearts Loisa Andalio and Ronnie Alonte turn to make us all dance onto our feet, with them providing the vocals for Devo’s “Whip It”.
Promising young singer Elha Nympha indeed blew our minds with how she amazingly kept pace with divas Angeline Quinto and Kyla in their upbeat rendition of Toni Basil’s “Mickey”. They were later on joined by the rest of the ASAP fam.
The kilig fest for that episode started off with the loveteams of Loisa and Ronnie, Karina Bautista and Aljon Mendoza, and Ashley del Mundo and Tan Roncal singing Orange and Lemon’s “Hanggang Kailan” by pairs then in unison.
Succeeding them were well-loved on-screen tandems Kyle Echarri and Francine Diaz (KyCine) and Seth Fedelin and Andrea Brillantes (SethDrea) who charmed us with their delighting take on Itchyworms’ “Akin Ka Nalang”.
From fluttering our hearts, Regine and popular millennial OPM band The Juans went on to break our hearts through their heart-rending collaboration on the latter’s break-up track “Istorya”.
Just days after their historic official debut last January 29, ABS-CBN’s newest boy group BGYO once again set the ASAP Natin ‘To on fire as they performed their first-ever single “The Light”, which totally amazed the Asia’s Songbird anew despite already seeing them a number of times in the previous months.
As they celebrate their 10th and 18th anniversaries in the local entertainment scene this year, Erik and Angeline filled the hearts of their fans with kilig through their duet of “Bakit Ba Iniibig Ka”, which he originally sang with Regine. It can be recalled that Erik was the first-ever champion of Star In A Million in 2003, while Angeline was the grand winner of Star Power in 2011.
Almost three years after dominating the Season 2 of Tawag ng Tanghalan in 2018, Janine Berdin had the fantastic opportunity to perform one of her winning pieces – “Tatsulok” – opposite its original singer Bamboo on-stage, which according to her was a dream come true and the best birthday gift ever!
Newest breed of singers Diego Gutierrez, Sam Cruz, Anji Salvacion, and KD Estrada once again serenaded us with a slew of love songs as they performed the hits of Ben&Ben alongside Ogie Alcasid and Soul Siren Nina, explicitly “Kathang Isip” and “Pagtingin”.
The January 31 show wrapped up with the ASAP Natin ‘To top-caliber singers belting out some of the iconic hugot OPM songs through the years in the “The Greatest Showdown” segment.
Gary Valenciano sang Jeremiah’s “Nanghihinayang”, Martin Nievera swooned us with his version of Ariel Rivera’s “Ayoko Na Sanang Magmahal”, Zsa Zsa Padilla broke hearts by singing “Nang Dahil Sa Pag-ibig” Tootsie Guevarra, while Erik Santos touched us with his heart-rending take on Jolina Magdangal’s “Kapag Ako Ay Nagmahal”.
Last, but definitely not the least, was Regine Velasquez-Alcasid who pierced our hearts with her rendition of Roselle Nava’s “Bakit Nga Ba Mahal Kita”.
The show may not be a complete blast from the past, but it succeeded in bringing us to a rollercoaster of emotions through the remarkable song and dance numbers we saw (and even sang or danced along to!).
You can watch ASAP Natin ‘To every Sunday high noon on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z.
